Get ready to have some fun! Howell’s Melon Festival starts tomorrow! The Melon Run features a 5K/10K, a 1 mile run, a Tot Trot and a Mascot Dash – a 100 yard out and back course by mascots sponsored by local businesses. There’s a Bike Ride, live entertainment, children’s events, a fine arts show, car show, steam train rides, and more. downtown howell: Downtown Howell Farmers' Market Opens Sunday

I guess it really is Spring! The Howell Farmers' Market opens for the season this Sunday, May 3rd at 9am and runs till 2pm. Open every Sunday, rain or shine on E. Clinton and State streets, around the historic Livingston County Court House. Plenty of parking in the nearby municipal lots and streets. The produce is a little light until some harvests come in, but there will be some greenhouse grown things, artisan goods, crafts and baked goods. Yesterday, my wife and I visited downtown Howell, Michigan. Our main reason was to get to the last of the Howell Winter Marketplaces - the indoor winter version of the Howell Farmers Market at the Howell Opera House. Next Sunday, by the way, is the 2015 inaugural Howell Farmers Market adjacent to the Historic Livingston County Courthouse. I bumped into a friend who has a small farm and was selling items there (previously unknown to me), and because it was a good, sunny, 'walking' day, we checked out some other shops. Here’s some exciting news! Livingston County is planning its first ever airshow. Crosswinds Aviation and the Livingston County Airport are working together to make this happen. The date is set for Saturday June 27, 2015. And this will be an exciting weekend in Howell. Also on tap this weekend is the Michigan Challenge BalloonFest, just down the street at Howell High School. And of course, on Sundays the Howell Farmer’s Market is in downtown Howell, next to the Historic Livingston County Courthouse, so there will be plenty to do.

downtown howell: Howell Farmers’ Market Opens May 4th

The Howell Farmers’ Market will open May 4, 2014. On this second most important ‘opening day’ (after that of the Detroit Tigers, of course), there will be horse-drawn wagon rides along with the crafts, herbs, baked goods and garden plants – all from local vendors. The Farmers’ Market is located adjacent to the Historic Livingston County Courthouse, generally the area around State and Clinton Streets in downtown. Visit from 9am to 2 pm every Sunday from May 4th through the end of October. Market goods shift along with the harvest, but there’s always something good there.

The area Farmers' Markets are closed until Spring 2014, and while that means we’re not going to have fresh local produce, there are still some great options for local shopping. The Howell Winter Marketplace is one of those choices. It is open 2 Sundays a month through April 2014, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Some of the items that will be available are fresh eggs and butter, baked good (including gluten-free products), jewelry, arts and crafts. The good news is that I've been so busy that I've let my blogging fall off. The bad news is that I've let my blogging fall off. Generally speaking, the housing market is finally looking up! I know you've been reading that the number of sales is down - and that's true. But they're down because we have such a shallow inventory. Almost every home that I've listed in the last 9 months or so has gone under contract within 15-25 days, had multiple offers and sold for above list price.
