holidays: Three Great Reasons to Celebrate Labor Day - 09/02/19 08:31 PM
Who doesn't enjoy a day off? During the unusual plague year of 2020 many folks have maybe had more "days off" than usual. For those blessed with jobs, Labor Day is usually a paid holiday.
It wasn't always that way. Go back in time about 158 years ago...
Did you know that celebrants at the first Labor Day in 1882 had to forego a half-day’s pay just for the privilege of participating in the event? That two different people with similar-sounding names “created” the initial Labor Day picnic? And that the event was almost a failure?
The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, … (6 comments)

Be Thankful, Blog About Your Gratitude-Thankful for ActiveRain Contest
by Silicon Valley REALTOR Michelle Carr Crowe
It's the beginning of the holiday season, and soon Thanksgiving will be upon us.
Today is the day to be thankful! It's the first day (day one) of Debbie Reynolds' Thanks Giving 2017 ActiveRain Challenge, 12 Days of Thanks Giving 2017- ActiveRain Challenge. Each entry will receive extra points (only one blog per day qualifies).
This contest is an exercise in both being thankful and blogging regularly-two things that can get lost amongst the holiday tasks.
Yet actively being thankful, and mindful of what we are grateful for by blogging about … (11 comments)

Grandparents Day is Sept. 10, 2017 Celebrate, Honor Your Relatives Now
by Silicon Valley REALTOR Michelle Carr Crowe
Grandparents Day is celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day annually. Surprisingly, this holiday was not artificially created by the greeting card industry. Instead it was a mother of 15 children, 43 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild named Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade of West Virginia.
The first presidential proclamation of Grandparents Day was by Jimmy Carter in 1979. There are three purposes for National Grandparents Day

.  To honor grandparents.

.  To give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children's children.

.  To help children become aware … (1 comments)

The Sun Is Out, So Find Some Shade...s! Today Is Sunglasses Day! by Silicon Valley REALTOR Michelle Carr Crowe
Sunglasses Day isn't a National or Government recognized day, but it's still a holiday all the same! The best part is, it's as easy as sliding a pair of sunglasses on to celebrate. That can't be too hard since the sun is making its prescence more and more known... at least here in the Bay Area it is. Thankfully, you can still enjoy the warm weather without worrying of eye damage if you have UV protection sun glasses.
It is VERY important to note … (4 comments)

Naughty Fun-January 11 is Step in a Puddle and Splash Your Friends Day
by Silicon Valley REALTOR Michelle Carr Crowe
With all of the rain and flood warnings in Santa Clara County it's only appropriate to celebrate Naughty Fun-January 11 is Step in a Puddle and Splash Your Friends Day.
Always celebrated on January 11, with eCards to prove it, the originator of this day remains anonymous. "Step in a Puddle and Splash Your Friends Day" was probably created by a child (or child at heart) who just enjoys jumping into and splashing around in puddles.
Silicon Valley doesn't get too many rainy days, so expect … (5 comments)

Bubble Bath Day is January 8, Enjoy a Long Relaxing Soak in the Tub
by Silicon Valley REALTOR Michelle Carr Crowe
Who doesn't enjoy a relaxing bubble bath?
Today readers have a good excuse for taking a bath-it's Bubble Bath Day on January 8.
As children, a bubble bath is playtime. As adults, a bubble bath is relaxation time. (Maybe playtime if it's in a tub for two.)
In Silicon Valley, to truly enjoy a bubble bath, be sure to leave the cell phone on silent and in another room. Maybe some candles, a glass of something refreshing and soothing music complete the scene.

Columbus Day-The Three Failures of Christopher Columbus-Part 2 of 3
By Michelle Carr Crowe
Even as schoolchildren still chant, “In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue”, things have changed for the intrepid explorer. Not only is his holiday no longer honored except by primarily government closures, his efforts as an explorer were considered failures at the time. On the eve of his federal holiday, it’s good to examine how the famous explorer Christopher Columbus failed.
Most importantly to Queen Isabella, Columbus failed to bring back the promised trade treasures of gold, silk and spices.  While Columbus “found” new possible trade partners, … (2 comments)

Happy Twelfth Night, Epiphany, Theophany & King’s Day January 6, 2014
By REALTOR® Michelle Carr Crowe, Silicon Valley real estate guide selling San Jose homes
“Happy Twelfth Night, Epiphany, Theophany & King’s Day January 6, 2014”-it sounds like many different holidays but actually they are just four separate names for the same event.
Epiphany (used in Western Christianity), Theophany (used in Eastern Christianity), King's Day and Twelfth Night are always celebrated on January 6th.
The January 6th holiday acknowledges the anniversary of the day the “Three Wise Men” presented the Holy Child, Jesus Christ with the gifts of gold, frankincense and … (8 comments)

How Many Hugs a Day Do You Need to Survive, Grow and Thrive?
By Michelle Carr Crowe, REALTOR®
Back in college at San Jose State University, I remember learning people need a minimum of three hugs a day just to survive.
Hugging is good medicine. Best of all giving a hug costs no money, takes only seconds, and returns back at least as much joy and love to you as it does to the person you give a hug to.
Recently I saw on Facebook that Dr. Wayne Dyer posted people now need more hugs:
4 hugs a day to survive

holidays: How To Make A Fabulous Gift Bow Using Wrapping Paper - 12/06/13 11:23 AM

I LOVE this way to recycle wrapping paper (especially those remnants) and make beautiful bows. I remember my mother teaching me how to "curl ribbon" with safety scissors as a young girl and what fun it was to see it transform into something new and beautiful.
I encourage you Agents Moms and Agent Dads (as well as grandparents) to teach the young ones around your home how to do make these beautiful gift bows out of wrapping paper (especially the leftover pieces).
If you would like to make beautiful, original bows for your gifts this year, I've got just the tutorial … (9 comments)

July is upon us and true to its summer nature, it makes sense that July is Cell Phone Courtesy  Month, Anti-Boredom Month and Blueberry, Hot Dog & Ice Cream Month. (Note: no matter how bored you are, we don't recommend putting all three of those foods together into one dish, although a hot dog followed by blueberry-covered ice cream sounds delicious.)

Happy Pongal, Makar Sankranti January 14, 2013
By Michelle Carr-Crowe, Silicon Valley guide and real estate expert
Whether referred to as Lohri, Bihu, Hadaga, Poki, Pongal or Makar Sankranti, today is a day of thanksgiving for the good harvest held every year in India, particularly Tamil Nadu.
Makar Sankranti or Pongal is a four-day holiday, with different traditions for each of the four days.
Pongal marks the sun’s six-month long journey northwards (Uttarayana). It is considered an auspicious day by Hindus.

Bhogi is the first day of Pongal. Many people clean house, then burn or remove old household items and purchase new household items on this day. Bhogi … (2 comments)
