corn based ethanol: Los Angeles County Discusses A Possible Ethanol Plant - 07/21/08 05:45 AM
This week the City of Los Angeles government officials will decide whether they will approve the area's first ethanol plant.
If approved, BlueFire Ethanol, an Irvine-based company, will have a plant constructed in Los Angeles County which will be the first commercial facility in the United States to begin processing biowaste into ethanol. 
Ethanol is a type of alcohol that's added to gasoline to help it burn cleaner emissions.  Statistics show that when ethanol was made with plants or wood, it produced less greenhouse gasses than corn-based ethanol which is more commonly used.
