We recently fired on of our affiliates. The had been great for some time but appear to be ging downhill. Not showing up, being hard to reach. Requiring multiple phone calls. Not following directions... but as I write this list, I find its a great list of things agents need to do to help them get more business.

I entered a contest put on by Active Rain's infamous blogger Amy Hahn, thinking what a joke this must be...
And low and behold... I lost....opps no I won.

Yesterday, during Bedford's Centerfest we opened our new location to allow visitors and area residents to preview the new office. We have some work to do, painting, carpets and decorating. But we hope to be open with in the next week or so.

I feel a little need to cheat today.. so this is more of a diary enter than a post.
What a week it has been, a real emotional roller-coaster! Business had been brisk, dealing with setting up the office, and losing our much loved boxer. He was full of so much love and personality! His heart was so big but it had started to fail him. After visits to the vet, veterinary hospital, and animal emergency clinic we knew it was time to let him go. It has been hard.

Every day Central Virginia requires large amounts of blood for emergency services!
Area hospitals have issues keeping up with the demand, that is where the American Red Cross steps in to help. Appalachian Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross travels throughout the area with their mobile blood mobiles to collect blood from donors all over Central and Southwest Virginia, often multiple blood drives are going on at the same time in different places. There are also four locations, Lynchburg VA, Beckley VA., Blacksburg and in downtown Roanoke.

The Roanoke Greek Festival
Each year the Greek Orthodox Church of Roanoke holds and annual Greek Festival. It is one of Roanoke's premier festival and quite the event. The three day event celebrates Greek culture.
The event is free to the public, they make money by food sales, booth rental, raffles, and donations. The food os amazing, so much that they even set up a "drive through"

The Bedford Community Resource Center needs a little help. The Bedford Community Resource Center is part of the Bedford Community Christmas Station. Among the many great things they do for the community, each year they put together a backpack of back-to-school supplies for area school children.
These supplies are the basics (pencils, paper, glue sticks) children need as part of the learning process. it is estimated each backpack full of supplies costs about $10 per student. Lake Vista a great community, its in Forest Va on the eastern edge of Bedford County just outside of the City of Lynchburg.
Originally founded in 1984, the Lake Vista neighborhood includes single family homes, townhouses and condominiums. It has multiple lakes, amazing views of the mountains and almost 25 acres of park like meadows. There is a large community center with space for meetings, events. Each nonth over 30 unique shops and vendors stay open late to show ther newest collections of arts, goods, and wares. People from all over Bedford come to see this latest in local art. Its a great way to get out, shop, see friends, and enjoy all that Centertown Bedford Has to offer!

Stink bugs are here and there and well...everywhere!
Its that time of year in Bedford, fall and spring, when we notice the stink bugs because they are looking for a warm place to hang out during when its cold. We see them the most when they are trying to get inside at night and outside during the day.
Stink bugs originated from Asia and have no known predators in the US. Currently stink bugs are inhabiting 33 states. They were first reported in Pennsylvania in the 1990's and have moved into the Bedford area just within the last couple … (5 comments)

New Events at the Taubman Museum of Art
The Taubman Museum of Art opened its $66 million 81,00 square foot building downtown Roanoke in 2008. It has multiple galleries and changes exhibits monthly. Recently, the Taubman has started having artist lectures and event each month.

As people walked out to the pool, there were dogs everywhere!
On the side, in the pool, there was even one on the diving board!
The dogs looked like they were having a great time....
What a great event for a fundraiser!
The Friends of the Lynchburg Dog Park is a non-profit group who are raising funds to build a lease free park.
Paws in the Pool is just one of their efforts to raise money for the park.
