Pink Mist
Pink Muhly MIstThis is one of my favorite fall-blooming foliages.   In the past, I have cut the Pink Muhly back around the first frost in late November or early December.  However, I read that it should be cut back in late winter.  So I will probably wait until January this year to cut it back.
As you can see, it does grow well in Sedona.  Our climate zone is 8a or 8b.  We are in the transition zone between the Sonora Desert and the Colorado Plateau.
I love sunrise and this grass just glistens during the early morning.  Because of our substantial … (44 comments)

flowers: Almost Speechless Sunday - Mother's Day Is Full of Color in Sedona... - 05/09/21 01:34 PM

Happy Mother's Day!
from
The Red Rocks of Sedona
If I am not working on a Sedona real estate deal, I like to spend my free time out in the garden.  When I go to the nursery, I find flowers and plants that bloom at different times of the year so that you can smell the fragrance and enjoy the color for as many months as possible. The lilacs are fading fast but the Jasmine plants are starting to bloom!
Here is a variety of flowers and plants from my garden on Mother's Day.
Today it is right around 78º with fluffy clouds and a gentle … (37 comments)

Sedona could not have had more beautiful weather during the month of April. Not one day dipped below freezing and the nighttime/daytime average was 58º. There were 27 days of temps over 65º (14 days between 70º ≤ 80º)!
Is El Niño Over?

Considering El Niño brings lots of rain and snow to the Southwest, Soldiers Pass in West Sedona only had 0.85 inches of rain for the month of April. All of that came in 5 days throughout the month.
In the first 3 months of 2019, The Cottages At Coffeepot had 26.11 inches of snow … (27 comments)

flowers: Happy Sedona Spring 2019! - 03/20/19 06:40 PM
Happy Sedona Spring!
It's Here!
Finally, spring has sprung!  At least in a big part of the country.  Last year, 26 days were above 60º.  Eleven days were above 70º and one day made it to 81º.  This was actually much cooler than March of 2017.  There were 17 days above 70º in 2017.  But Mother Nature does not wait around.
If Mother Nature has not given you the opportunity to thaw out yet, well, I hope it comes soon for you. It is nice to see all the flowers starting to bloom and the fruitless plums with their blossoms all along the SR89A which is Sedona's main … (38 comments)

Bird Watching
Ash-throated Flycatcher
Well spring is here. The weather is wonderful. We are at 75º as I write this at 1 PM. It will probably get just a little warmer. I thought I would enjoy the outside backyard sipping a tea with my husband's Canon 5D Mark IV camera for just a few minutes. I often bring my Audubon book "Field Guide to the Southwestern States"  to help me with birds I may not know.
It is a great way to soak up the warm weather and decompress especially before planning and preparing the big Easter dinner on Sunday.
As the Blue … (20 comments)

The Tale of My 41 Year Old Spider Plant and More Blooms!

41 Year Old Spider Plant
I bought this plant back in 1976 to hang on a macrame plant hanger. My new home had a covered porch, so I thought this would be perfect. In 1984, when we moved to our third home, I definitely made sure I would take this plant. Both my boys were born and grew up with this plant. So there was an attachment and memories.
