Where are all my Christmas cards?
So far this year we have received less than half the number of Christmas cards we normally receive.  I am surprised and, I'll admit, a little disappointed...especially since I sent out more cards than usual this year.
At first I thought maybe it was the economy but now I think Facebook, Twitter, and blogging are responsible for my lack of greeting cards.  We are now much more connected to friends, family, and others rather than just getting that yearly Christmas card and sometimes the yearly family newsletter.   It's hard to know.

According to a new study by doctoral candidate Aryn Karpinski of Ohio State University and Adam Duberstein of Ohio Dominican University, college students who use Facebook have significantly lower grade-point averages (GPAs) than those who do not.
The study will be presented at the annual meeting of the American Education Research Association on April 16.  The study surveyed 219 undergraduate and graduate students and found that GPAs of Facebook users typically ranged a full grade point lower than those of nonusers - 3.0 to 3.5 for users versus 3.5 to 4.0 for their non-networking peers.

Is Twitter causing changes at Facebook?  Facebook has announced they are changing their website.  The biggest change is the "status update" which will change from "What are you doing?" to "What's on your mind?"
"It's going to be more about the message you want to send to others than what you're doing at that very moment," says Meredith Chin, Facebook's manager of corporate accounts. Or as the Facebook describes it in a blog post: "One way to think about this is as a timeline -- or a stream. As people share more ... the pace of updates accelerates."
