The forecast was dismal.
Rain all day. Thunderstorms.
So last night, we got the reverse 911 call that our Memorial Day parade had been cancelled. Lots of surrounding towns got the same call.
The morning started out drizzly and we modified our plans for an indoor barbecue.
And then the sun came out. Still grey skies, but no rain. Here's a few photos of our garden which we are enjoying this afternoon.
 
 
Bonnie is apparently causing a lot more trouble south of us and we hope everyone is safe. But for us, we're about to put the charcoal in the grill.

E.coli and Salmonella? Not so much.
Here's how to be sure you're not packing any bacteria in with your picnic:
Wash your produce before packing for your picnic. No sense bringing extra bacteria along for the ride! Keep food at proper temperature - never let your picnic food remain in the "Danger Zone" - between 40° F and 140° F - for more than 2 hours, or 1 hour if outdoor temperatures are above 90° F. Lots of folks in Union County are planning to take their gas grill out of their garages this weekend and fire them up for the first time this season. Before you put the hot dogs on, be sure to take care of some annual maintenance to make sure your grill is safe to use.

The Cranford Recreation and Parks Department will sponsor the annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday. Marchers will line up beginning at the Community Center at 220 Walnut Avenue at 8:30 am and step off is at 9am. At 10am, after the parade, there will be a Memorial Day ceremony at Memorial Park on Springfield Avenue between Riverside Drive and Central Avenue.

Clark will host a Memorial Day Parade on Monday, stepping off at 9:30 am. Following the parade will be services at the Arthur L. Johnson High School.
 This year’s parade will dedicated to the memory of Clark native Sergeant James W. Harvey II who was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 20, 2011.

Rahway's Memorial Day Parade will be held on Sunday, May 27th, stepping off at 1:30 pm in front of City Hall at Main Street and E. Milton Avenue. It will pass down Irving Street to Main Street and end at City Hall.
