pope francis: When Did So Many of Us Stop Really Seeing Each Other? - 09/30/15 10:41 PM
When Did So Many of Us Stop Really Seeing Each Other?
I sometimes find myself scratching what little hair I have left when I listen to the news anymore. I am fascinated by the heavens, and I watch and read anything I can get my hands on about outer space. We are at point in our history where we are rapidly expanding our knowledge of the worlds beyond ours. We just found that there is water on Mars, and we are now seeing close up photos of Pluto…just ponder for a moment on this one achievement by mankind. We launched a probe to … (0 comments)

pope francis: What Year Is It? - 01/06/15 12:05 AM
What Year Is It?
I know we just celebrated New Year’s Day, and I know from looking at the calendar that it is 2015…but is it really?
The Pope, in a December message, spoke of the evils of slavery. Then more recently, on Yahoo, I read an article about a man who escaped slavery by running away from a salt field where he was forced to work 18-hour days on an island off the coast of North Korea.
One has to wonder if it is not 1615, or 1715, or 1815…because it surely can’t be 2015!
Pope Franics wrote, “to all men and … (2 comments)

pope francis: The Media’s Fascination With Pope Francis - 12/15/14 05:46 AM
The Media’s Fascination With Pope Francis
I use Yahoo as my web browser, and I find it interesting that there usually are 4-5 articles each day about Pope Francis’s comings and goings. Pope Francis said this…Pope Francis is coming to the United States…the Pope did this… the Pope did that…the Pope said pets go to heaven too.
I am Catholic, so I am naturally inclined to check these stories out, as they are of interest to me. There are a ton of us Catholics, so I understand the media’s need to report on his activities. However, I don’t remember Pope … (2 comments)

pope francis: Just Let God Sort It Out! - 11/10/14 11:02 PM
Just Let God Sort It Out!
I spend a great deal of time reflecting back over my life. Being a real estate agent, we spend a great deal of time in our cars driving about. I like to listen to books on tape during those endless hours behind the wheel. It’s a way to productively make use of what could be wasted time. I try to listen to thought provoking books…things that cause me to grow as an agent and things that can help me grow as a human being. When I come across something I consider profound, I will turn … (8 comments)

pope francis: There Is No God - 11/04/14 03:40 AM
There Is No God
At least, that is what Stephen Hawking recently declared. The renowned astrophysicist gave an interview a few months ago in which he stated that there is no God. He continued that miracles stemming from religious beliefs are “not compatible with science.”
"In my opinion, there is no aspect of reality beyond the reach of the human mind." Hawking added. He went on to state that he has a firm belief that the universe was the work of scientifically explainable phenomena, and not that of a supreme being.
What is interesting is that, while Mr. Hawking seems to … (10 comments)

pope francis: The Pope is Time Magazine’s Man of the Year - 12/11/13 10:15 PM
Perhaps there is hope for us yet as a society.
I realize that we are all on our own faith journey, or perhaps we are just trying to be a good person all on our own. While I am Catholic, I am smart enough to know that my path may not be your path…and that is fine, it doesn’t have to be. I find it all-consuming just trying to be a decent human being myself, without trying to sit in judgment of others.
What is interesting with the new Pope is that you don’t have to be a Catholic, or even … (2 comments)

pope francis: Lessons from Rio - 08/05/13 12:40 AM
The World Longs to Move in a New Direction
Last week the world watched as over 3 million people from around the world assembled on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to hear a simple, but profound message of love and hope. They came to hear a message about turning back to God, and away from the trappings of this world. The message was delivered with intellectual integrity because it was given by a man who has shunned the trappings of his office as Pope.
Pope Francis carries his own bags, lives in a spartan apartment and not the lavish … (5 comments)

pope francis: Who am I to Judge? - 08/01/13 01:17 AM
Who am I to Judge?
Pope Francis, on a plane headed back to Rome after his historic trip to a Youth Conference in Brazil, uttered those now famous words. He was having a very candid conversation with journalists regarding gays and gay priests. His exact quote was, “"If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" Francis asked. "We shouldn't marginalize people for this. They must be integrated into society."
The Pope’s comments did not alter the official position of the Catholic Church in regard to homosexuality…but that is not what … (35 comments)

pope francis: What obligation do we have towards the poor? - 03/19/13 04:49 AM
What  obligation do we have towards the poor?
The other day I wrote a blog regarding the media’s fascination with the new Pope’s acts of humility. It just seems there has been a media firestorm about all the little symbolic gestures of Pope Francis to set a new tone for the Catholic faithful, perhaps even the world. I observed in that blog that I felt people are really hungry for a new way of leading. We are so tired of our leaders leading with a tone of, “do as I say, not as I do.” The world has grown so weary … (6 comments)

pope francis: Humility - 03/15/13 12:16 AM
Humility
Much has been made over the new Pope’s humility. We have been given details in the media on how the new Pope went and picked up his own bags, and paid his hotel bill after being elected Pope. We have heard how he took the bus with the Cardinals who elected him, rather than ride in a limo. We have been given details of his life in Argentina…where he rode the bus, went to soccer games, and lived in simple apartment rather than the plush accommodations he was entitled to as a Bishop. We have heard the stories of him … (8 comments)
