Check out this article about a high school friend of mine (Amy Gray Baudoin) whose family harvests sugar cane and makes homemade cane syrup from it. Very different from what you get in the store and very good. One of the many nearly lost Cajun cultural experiences that I'm so glad someone is still preserving.
