AREA NEAR NASA BYPASS TO BE CLOSED THIS WEEKEND:
The northbound and southbound lanes of Gulf Freeway will close this weekend as the state’s transportation department continues road construction in the area around NASA Bypass. Interstate 45 will close between 9 p.m. Friday and noon Sunday, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. The department will close all southbound lanes between Bay Area Boulevard and NASA Bypass. On the northbound side, the department will close only the inside left lane between FM 518 to NASA Bypass, said Karen Othon, spokeswoman. The lane closure will allow transportation workers to move concrete barriers, stripe the pavement and install signs in order to direct traffic onto the new pavement just south of Bay Area Boulevard, Othon said. Motorists heading south on the Gulf Freeway this weekend will be directed off the interstate at Bay Area Boulevard, where they can continue driving on the frontage road, until the next open entrance ramp. Alternate routes include state Highway 3 for north-south traffic.
