Electronic Lockboxes

By
Real Estate Agent with Benchmark Residential & Investment Real Estate

We have been using electronic lockboxes here in maine for a while  now.  I will say its easier not to write down codes and its good for tracking purposes, but technology is not always better. I have a lockbox that has a dead battery and so the motor wouldnt work. I had to discover this in a torrential downpour and while on the phone with tech support. Pressing buttons and resetting things, of course there is enough battery for that. But not for the motor. And figures, I didnt happen to have my # 10 torque wrench with me and spare lithuim watch battery. I guess at that point i would have been happy to press a few buttons and get my keys and lockbox.

Thanks for the reminder. Now I can't wait to check the battery life on all my boxes.

I got locked out this winter and there was about a 30-40 degree negative wind chill. Bare hands trying to get the box open. It turns out the thing just froze. I put it in my car a while but that could happen with any lock. I think they are better overall though.

We've been using electronic lock boxes for years.  I never heard of them requiring batteries so maybe we are using a different model.  In any case, I have really love the ability to track exactly when and who gained access to the properties.  I don't even have to read the box, I can access this data online.

I like Supra, but have reservations about Sentrilock. All of my foreclosures have combos.

We are using sentrilock.  The tracking part is great. Ive only left my card in a lockbox once.

We do like the electronic lock boxes and have never had a problem. I like the fact that they provide more security for our sellers than traditional combo boxes.

I have duplicate keys with me for MY rental properties with lockboxes for JUST this reason....although they are supposed to be put on the door handle, many properties have nice doors and I/the owners do not want dings on the door and I don't want to have to stand on my head to aim the d-key...

Hi Justin - Technology is not without its glitches.  I guess this is a reminder that we need to check our lock boxes every now and then to make sure they're operational.

I had several Supra lockboxes freeze up this winter.  I carry a hammer in my trunk and just tap it a few times and it frees it up so they will open...

We have dead batteries and frozen boxes here in MN often.  I guess it is better than the alternative but...............I sure wish I could reactive my card at home.
