The Big House.......come & take a trip

By

Welcome to the "Big House"

Who are these people and why are they in a blog....
on Active Rain,
on a Realtor blog?

Warnings about what could happen to those of us who may be thinking about
taking up a second career? .....
 broadening our horizons.......
taking matters into our own hands.....
functioning in this mortgage modification maddening mess....

None of the above.....[though some may make fascinating subject material for blogs]

This is about opening our very depleted News Paper here in Detroit Metro Area
& coming across a column about a Wine tasting in Livonia, MI using North West
wines. Normally, this would not have been anything of interest to us......
except for the fact that a Wine company & their wine that we like is one of those being
highlighted.

"The Big House" wines are good,    however, the reason that I purchased them in the
first place was because of their 'names' & the wonderful stories about the 'name' on the
labels.
....some background for those of you who haven't discovered them yet...
these wines come from Monterey Co. CA...from a vineyard that surrounds the Soledad State
Correctional Facility. The original owner--Randall Grahm-- thus named his Brand---"The Big House"

Each bottle has a delightful name and story; each label is a great comic-type drawing; each is priced between $9.00 - $15.00 [ or can be found on sale at times.]
Oh, the wine is good, too.....but those names & labels are the best::

.....for under $10.00---you can purchase the "Common Criminals": = $ 9.00 top price
        Big House Red
        Big House White
        Big House Pink
Warden Break offers wine ...'out of the stuffy tradition.... all of this printed as if a ransom note using
                                         letters cut & pasted

.....the white-collar inmates are  'the Upper Cell Block'  dry wines $10.00 - $15.00
    offered as follows:
        The Birdman-Pinot Grigio
        The Slammer-Syrah
The Prodigal Son-Petite Sirah--the story states that...'the son Petite Sirah wasn't as tight....
with one side of his family..who in turn, sold him up the river because of the crime
termed " difficulty in maturing"...but the kid's got spunk...'

So you have more than likely discovered why I would pick up these wines....

....and you would be correct....I first bought them for the names & labels.

In fact, when the Gospel readings come around to the Biblical story of the "Prodigal Son", we have
purchased 2 extra bottles of....you guessed it....'the Prodigal Son' for each of our Priests.
Both have a good sense of humor and won't take this as a mis-step on our part.

Or at least I hope that they see the humor...if not....I am certain that the 'bolt of lightening'
will be directed toward me; it was my idea, but Sal did laugh so he is involved at least as an
accessory.

If God can make humans, dogs & cats And Sea gulls--you just KNOW that His sense of humor is the
best of the BEST.

If you  are in Michigan, willing to drive to Livonia, have the time free on April 24-6-8 pm; give a call
....reservations needed at:  Flemings Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar.. $35.00 total price..
      www.detroit-wine.org  Or call Alix Hollis at 248 - 504 - 1962

or, do what I do,,hit up your local Meijer or Walmart & buy the ones they sell.

Enjoy your day----
remember it is said that a glass of wine can be medicinal--oh bother--
if you like it, just drink it.  Moderation is the Key in all things.

Maybe it is me, but I found this post very confusing.

Personally, I have always aspired to NEVER take a trip to "the big house" and have managed to stay clear.  Phew...

Bridget--all I can say is OOpps & not intended.

Janna--the actual Big House trip, I definitely agree, but if you have the opportunity, do try the wine or at least read the labels.
