I lent out my GPS to my buyers...do you think I'll get it back!? Garmin GPS, State College, PA

So I went out on a limb and lent out my GPS to my buyers.  I sent them out with it to drive by some homes in an area theyGarmin GPS Copyright Nyssa Smith were not familiar with.  They are first-time homebuyers.  A nice young couple that are just engaged to be married soon.  They are just so sweet!

Anyway, they wanted me to just show them all the homes on their list.  So I went out on a limb and lent them mine GPS for a couple of days.  It's a Garmin that I purchased at our local State College, PA Walmart.  Now, am I crazy in the head to do so?  Or am I smart for doing so?  You tell me!

I was thinking, this gives them the opportunity to narrow down without me along.  And then I will only be showing them the homes they actually want to see after they do their drive bys.  So, I'm thinking this is a smart move!

Although, I could be crazy and never see the GPS again!  Ouch!  I would really miss it!  In that case, I would prove crazy that I lent it to them!

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Your friend in the real estate biz,

~Nyssa

I wouldn't lend my GPS to my own grandmother.  Luckily, she didn't drive...

I bet you will get it back.  I think I would have just given them a map though.  Thank goodness my GPS is built in and I can't loan it out.

Nyssa~ I would let my buyers use it.  Better yet, have extras just for this purpose!  I like the idea!

You will probably have a client for life!  If your gut feelings are generally right on, then you must have felt fine about loaning it out...they do know it's a loaner, don't they:-)

Nyssa I will probably give it to them. Wait a minute I just brought one like two weeks ago,why would I want to do that? But like Dana said-you have just gained a client for life I think. Great post

I would have printed them a map with all the homes located they wanted to see on it; we can plan a driving plan on our MLS and printed it out for them. Hopefully, your gut instinct was right and you will see them again on Wednesday.

Hmmm... I'm getting some great ideas from this post!

Tammy~ You cracked me up!  With it being built-in you don't even have the option of this being a dilemma for you!  Good one!  Although, your comment lead me to believe it might actually be something that would think about doing for your clients!

Vickie~  Having extras on hand...now I think we're onto something!

Dana~ Clients for life!  I do work By Referral Only!  So I would be honored if they become my clients for life!  Thanks for your comments!

Lanre~ Always nice to hear from you!  Are you enjoying yours?  Which one did you get?  Mine is a Garmin.  We purchased it for about $200 (maybe $199) at our local Wal Mart in State College, PA.  I would tell you the model, but I'll have to wait until I get it back!  :-)

Pat~ Maps...hmmm...an actual paper map?  I'm not sure I know what that is?  LOL! j/k

Hi Nyssa - you will probably get it back - I don't use one, Mesquite is small enough that I know where everything is -:)  I give buyers a map of where we are going, yes, a paper map!

Nyssa-  I think you're probably safe in loaning it out.  If they are thinking "green" and paperless like many young couples, they definitely will appreciate your not printing out paper maps and killing trees.  Maybe you could have a form for Buyers to fill out, stating they know (X) is a loaner and it will be due back by (X) or they will have to reimburse you for it.  If you systematized it, then it'd be like clockwork.  That could be a question on your intake form ("Do you have a GPS? or Do you need to borrow a GPS for 2 months?").  You'd have to purchase a few to have on-hand.

Nyssa, I am sure you will get it back. I don't have one, I hate to admit. Tell you what, loan me yours when you get it back, let me use it for a while. Then I will know if indeed I want one. :D

Welcome to AR!

Hi Andrea~ I can tell you this...my husband and I, after just a few days of purchasing the GPS, both said to each other that it was THE best $200 we EVER spent on anything!  You will love it!  The one we purchased is a Garmin (again - see my comment to Lanre above - I can't tell you the model until I get it back!).  We purchased it at our local Walmart here in State College, PA (Benner Pike location).  It's a wide screen one, it speaks the directions to us, you can plug it into your car outlet, or take it with you unplugged because there's a rechargeable battery in it, as well.  We absolutely LOVE it!  You will say to yourself: "why didn't I purchase one sooner!"  Hope this information helps!  I know there are less expensive models and more expensive models.  We are happy with the mid-range one we purchased.  Once we get it back, I can post which model it is.  :-)

Thanks Kate for letting me know I was featured in the ar newsletter.  Sadly, I had no idea there even was one.  LOL!  I tried to find it on the AR site.  Is it on the site?  Or is it something that is emailed out to members?  Or a "paper" version that is actually "mailed" to people?  I know!  Don't laugh!  I'm a newbie!  What can I say!

Good news!  I met with my buyers last night and I got my GPS back!  :-)  I knew I would!  My gut was telling me from the start that it was the right thing to do!  Glad I followed my gut instincts!  And their parents and their friends also showed up, too.  So not only do I have my buyers as clients for life, I know in the future, I'll get other referrals.  This really opened the way to a trusting relationship!  And since these are first-time home buyers, I could really see that their parents really feel comfortable with me representing their kids.  They now know that their kids are in excellent hands and that I will truly represent their best interest!

I read once about a marketing idea where a GPS is loaded with the addresses that you wanted the buyer to go look at.  Go look and come back and tell us what you like and don't like
