What Do You Know About the Locks on the Columbia River?

I'm lookin for information about the locks on the Columbia River.  Are they like the ones on the Panama Canal?  I've always wanted to go to the Panama Canal and ride a boat through the locks, but my husband isn't too keen on it.  We are going away for two weeks starting tonight to Washington and Montana and I would love it if someone told me if you can ride a boat down the Columbia River and go through the locks?  This might be only opportunity.  Thanks for your help.

Too bad I didn't find this post before you left because I see you've already gone and come back. If you want to do some cool locks, go to Michigan and do the Soo Locks at Sault Ste Marie on Lake Superior. They are awesome. Go during the fall so you can also see the Upper Peninsula colors, and take a trip over to Tahquamenon Falls, the Niagara of the West.

For anyone reading this post, I did end up going to some locks in Seattle.  See my post on Chittenden Locks.
