The Title above is the opening statement on Sunday's Oct. 4, 2009 Detroit Free Press.
The editorial was the Front Page in "News + Views" section / pg 23A
Stark wording....effective wording....
Will anyone in charge actually read ?
Will their reading make any type of difference ?
Will any difference be in time to stop this financial train wreck we are traveling on in Michigan ?
The editorial goes on to state...."to avoid the annual rite of humiliation and hard feelings, and to get
its books into long-term balance, Michigan needs to change the way it collects and spends the people's money."
...the annual "rite of humiliation" --WOW--words to make the hair stand up on the back of your neck;
worse still they call it "annual".
This must stop...and it must stop this year.
Soon we will be into the 'Campaign sideshows'; promises made...words spoken / shouted...pledges sent upon the winds of time.
No more promises, pledges, 
complaints, comparisons
tearing another down, to build self up
Someone out there needs to step up by October 31, 2009
Someone out there needs to take charge
Someone out there needs to stop being a partisan, and
Someone out there needs to lead the way in being an American first [before we lose THAT direction]
Steps already proposed by various factions--House Speaker Dillon, Center for Michigan, Business Leaders for Michigan to name a few. All the suggestions are big fixes that involve both tax and spending reforms.
Some will please a few, some will disturb more than a few, & some will force many to start thinking about the state of the State & Country.
We all, everyone, will have to step up to the plate and accept what it takes to get Michigan out of the financial "Red" and into the "Black"..

No, it would be too sad to hurt 'BABE'...but our personal OXEN are another story all together;
It is difficult to track just what is happening in Lansing these days....stories are few....local TV reports are slow.....we don't get a daily paper....on line headlines do not tell the entire story...Pretty much the same as happens in Washington.
Sad that so many elected persons forget that they work for us "The People".
Those of you who have 9th - 12th grade students have a difficult job in your already crowded days--
YOU must alert them to what is taking place in our world & also, must teach them to think for themselves while at the same time, to know how to present their beliefs to the teacher [s]. Give them the facts and the way to find the facts,& hardest of all, goad them into learning the facts by using some valuable seconds taken away from texting, iphoning, wii, Facebook, Twitter & My Space.
You have our prayers in this...
You have our virtual shoulders to cry upon....
You have our ears when you need to say things best unheard.
I think that it is time for all you guys out there to [ as the show states ] "Man up"
and
ladies, I guess that we must " ..put on our Big girls panties, and deal with it"

A Dragotta up date: today we "Winterized" outside;
...it was Sal's idea--I checked this A.M. to be sure that I didn't suggest this
...I directed the method of storage, tarping, & packing too many things
...Poor Sal, he really is a numbers kind of person--put things in a place, remember where
they are, & move on--I, on the other hand, NEED to have them neatly packed in
containers, all zip ties cut off, all containers [ plastic tote BIG ] stacked carefully
...a FUN time was had by all NOT! LOL
6 [SIX] hours later, we are almost finished for this year.
Really, REALLY makes me want to move to FL where 'winterizing' may involve replacing dead flowers & perhaps raking some leaves; wait, do Palm trees even have leaves?
NO, they don't---they have Fronds...those are big...those can be picked up by hand.
