Lakewood Subdivision - Homes w/ Airstrip Access Fairbanks Alaska

Lakewood Subdivision Fairbanks Alaska

With barely 14,000 miles of road in a state covering 570,000 square miles (more than twice the size of Texas), it's easy to see why Alaskans rely so heavily on air travel.  And, with 1 in 53 Alaskans holding a pilots license, we do a lot of flying.  While many folks opt to keep their planes at Fairbanks International or Metro Field, there's something to be said for stepping out your front door and into your plane.  Whether for convenience or security it's a feature most neighborhoods don't offer.Lakewood Subdivision Fairbanks Alaska

Lakewood Subdivision in North Pole is an aviation friendly community. Comprised of 54 one-acre (+/-) home sites surrounding a 150' by 1,500' gravel and grass airstrip. At 1,500' the field is large enough for a super cub, 180 or 185 to get in and out of with little effort, if not fully loaded. As of this writing there are still a few undeveloped home sites available.  View the Lakewood Subdivision plat or follow the link for directions.

Most are single family homes, but there are a couple of multi-family properties.  Several have incorporated a large hanger into the home design while others simply keep their plane parked behind/beside the house, ready to go wheels up at a moments notice. As an added bonus the home sites on the eastern subdivision boundary border Chena Lakes Recreation Area.

Below are a few of the homes in Lakewood Subdivision.

If you're a pilot (or aspiring pilot) looking for a place to call home, consider Lakewood Subdivision.  It's a short 15 minute drive to Fairbanks, Fort Wainwright or Eielson Air Force Base and minutes from the city of North Pole. Lakewood Subdivision - Homes for pilots and their families!

This is cool Jesse. We have a community nearby which is similar in concept. It's fun to see a client come to me with a listing and say "wow, this one has a 12 car garage" and then I have to explain that it's really a hangar and the only the way the agent could convey that via the data entry sheet (in addition to marketing comments) is via the garage category...and afterall, they could fit 12 cars in most of them LOL!

Jesse,

I did not go to North Pole back in May when I was in Alaska. I believe I was only about 10 miles away while visiting Fairbanks. I loved my trip ther.

Jesse. Many people complain about all you see on todays Houses is the garage.  But the airplane hanger would really set these people off.  Thanks for the inner look into your State!

Beautiful photos of the area and what a great concept to incorporate airstrip access. Sounds like there are a lot of pilots in your state.

Love airstrip homes Jesse. So unique out there. Good luck with it. Some in our area have six to ten homes with the shared airstrip.

I have seen homes with an airstrip but I must say that's the first house I have ever seen with a hanger attached.

Nice report on the development Jesse.

How cool is that?  How amazing to walk out your back door, get in your own plane and create an adventure.

Mike - Prices range from the mid $200's up to the mid $400's.  The photo in the middle and the first of the four have hangers.  The windows in the first of the four in a bi-fold door that opens.  (I sold that particular house a few years ago... builder did a great job)

Lynda - We use our plane like most people use the family station wagon. :)

Lenn - Life is indeed an adventure... and we live it every day

Fernando - Knock on wood, I've yet to take out a bird.

Andrea - I only like to fly if I'm in the left seat.  haha

Russell - We do have some great fishing holes, don't we?  That's certainly one of the perks of having a plan.

Judi - Thank you! We do our best.

Karen - I would imagine it's a little different :)

Richard - Good to see you buddy.  I'm glad you enjoy 'em.

Leesa - You bette say hi if you make it up here!

Colleen - We hear that every now and again.  Some are big enough to park your RV, boat, ATV's, plane and family cars in.  Now, that's a garage! haha

Mike - North Pole is only a few miles south of Fairbanks; a bedroom community if you will.

Karen - Agreed. Homes in these subdivisons are generally always in demand.

Jonathan - If nothing else it's a great way for buyers to learn about the area.

Bill - My wife is one of those people. She does not want to see the garage from the street.  On the other hand the husbands usally fall in love and wouldn't care if it was pink. ha

Sharon - Thanks!  What do you fly?

Gene - Hard to do where land prices are through the roof I would imagine... and make it affordable that is.

Kevin - One or two.  Thanks for stopping by.

Gary - We like it because it keeps the plane close for convenience, but also you can better keep an eye on it.

Cameron - Hey buddy...  Most of these folks have donea great job incorporating the hanger so it's not the first thing you notice.

Chris - It is, I agree.

VERY VERY cool featured local post!  I used to live in one of these neighborhoods in Omaha off of the Millard airport.  People could just park their planes in their basement garage.   I don't believe we have anything like this in the Las Vegas area!

Jesse,

We have one in Daytona. That's where John Travolta had a home, but later he moved to Ocala as there were a lot of people complaining when he was taking off and landing in his huge plane.

A few years ago I read there were 17 in Florida, should be ore now. You might have even more htan that, I would think.

Lane - It's great isn't it?  A fellow has to have room for his tools and toys, right?

Renee - Thank you!  It is a great concept (neighborhood), isn't it?

Debe - Hi kiddo!  Glad you like the photo's.  I'm afraid Mother Nature did the hard work..I just stand stil and click away. ;)

Jon - Seems he was flying a Gulfstream. That would be a speck larger than this neighborhood could accomodate, but what a plane. I read not too long ago there were almost 400 private airfields in Alaska.

Still drolling a little from the garage...  I'd like mine with about 4000 square feet please.  I guess there can be a house, too.

Hello.   While I understand that the primary goal is sales, I was wondering if any hangars or hangar/homes are for rent?

thank you
