HELP! IT JUST CAN'T BE!!!

Home Stager with Stage with Divine Style - Home Staging

Yesterday we went to view a home to bid on it.  It was 1900 square feet and on 9/10's of an acre.  It is an 1950's Eichler Home.  Very popular in that time period all around the San Francisco Bay Area.

They told us over the phone that they had done some remodeling and still working on things this week.  The Professional Painters were there when we arrived.  They had a couple of men building a fence in the backyard.  Wednesday the new carpet was being layed.  Beautiful kitchen which was completely remodeled with granite, stainless steel appliances and cherry wood cabinetry, etc...

There was just one thing that was hard to get passed.  The kitchen, the office, the bedrooms and the next room to be painted was the family room were all painted PINK!!!  Dusty Rose Pink!!!   We looked at each other and thought OH NO, IT JUST CAN'T BE IN EVERYROOM.  This was the color that they chose.  There was no convincing them other wise.

I have an idea what I could use to make it work...but would love your input as to what you might suggest to help tone this color down throughout house.

Recently I took my teenager daughter with me to preview a home and it too had most of the rooms painted pink... she called it the "Barbie" home!  It makes for some creative marketing!

Hi Linda, I call myself creative, but pink for sure is a challenge. I am looking forward to hear from you how you have tackled this one.

I like that the "BARBIE" house.  At least one room would be easy to define...a little girls room.  I believe you are right "Creative Marketing!".  It should be fun!!!

Barbara,  Well I have one room down...a little girls room.  Bathroom...that's pretty easy using black towels, etc...  The office might be a little harder...I don't know many men that would envision themselves in a pink office...I have to think about that one.  It's the family room that I think will be the most challenging.  I'll let you know Barbara.  Thanks for commenting.

By the way I like this newer picture of you!

Linda,

I was going to suggest the black which it seems you already used in the bathroom. I have never for the life of me been able to understand why people paint rooms pink. Sure that is cute for a little girls room but not the main living areas of the house. Good luck with what you decide and please post pictures!

Hi Linda - I would put chocolate brown with pink. Is this the house in Napa?

Hi Kelly,

Funny you would say put brown with the pink.  That's what I told the homeowner.  Yes, this is the house in Napa.  Do you know this house and did you do a bid on it too?  Too Funny!!!

I posted a note on your blog about sharing a warehouse are you still interested in that?  Give me a call if you are.  Thanks!

Linda,  I would have to agree with Kelly.  Brown works well with pink.  I always suggest that the homeowner re-paint (even if they just painted).  I also explain that most do not want to re-paint when they purchase a home unless they are buying a handyman special.  I understand that the homeowner does not want to paint again, so do your magic and keep us posted with the results.  Looking forward to seeing the photos!

Well, pink goes well with light blue.  Just kidding!  I see pink and blue in so many 60's houses, I could just shout.  Anyway, I think the pink/brown is a current color combo that works, probably better than pink/black.  Ask Kevin - he is the paint king - he knows everything about color combos.

Patty, I agree paint is one of the best investments a homeowner can make and gives the best return.  I have an update:  I waited to hear back from the homeowner and Realtor about the bid I put in...days later I received an email letting me know the house sold in two days after I saw it...for full price with 30% down.  It just shows me that there are buyers out there that like pink!!!  Thanks for your comment.

Jane, I agree with the pink and brown it is a great combo.  I will remember that in the future if I get another pink house to Stage.  Thanks Jane for your comment.
