How many computer "experts" have you hired/paid to assist you in your endeavors?

Well, I am now going on my 5th!  I have yet to understand how to achieve a higher ranking in google.  Everyone tells me something different.  If I google my name, I am on over 7300 web pages.  My website has been tagged to all these web pages, but yet my website is no where near the top of the google search.

I have been told "tags" work.  Then I see a video from google that shows Mr. Google stating "tags" are meaningless in the search engine.  "Description" means something, though.  Linking to others is supposed to help.  I have done this.  But I am MISSING something or everything !?

Can anyone tell me how to achieve a higher ranking?  All tips appreciated!

First, Googling your name means nothing. If people knew your name, they would already be calling you. You want people to google local searches of things, and have your name appear on 7300 sites.

I agree that it's a combination of everything, and there is no magic pill, unless you pay one of those companies with guaranteed ranking for search terms that people don't actually use.

The first thing google is going to look at is the url name.  Because your url is seacoastmortgage.com, if someone searched for seacoast morgage you will likely be the first one to show up.  The second most important item is the page title.  It should have the keywords that people will be searching for.  your's should be something like "Sea Coast Mortgage, Financing in Providence, RI".  You can get multiple domain names that redirect to your site for about $10.00 per year.  I have bradyhomeinspection.com & humboldtinspector.com redirecting to bradyinspects.com.

My page titles say "home inspections in Eureka, Arcata, Fortuna & Mckinlyville"  the main towns I serve.  Try searching for home inspector, home inspection, etc in any of those towns (it helps to add the state - CA.

There are a lot of other things to do to help, but that is a good start.

And not related to google searches, but your professional appearance will be enhanced if you'll use an in-focus photo here on AR.

Include your desired search terms in your website, especially in headers and page titles.

Ask your customers what terms they use to search for mortgage brokers and lenders. Use those terms.

ps stop hiring "computer" experts and start looking for "internet" experts... rarely are they both found in a single person.

RE: "domain names really don't matter"

Tell that to whoever has mortgage.com.  I did a search for sea coast mortage and they were #1.  Domain name is the first thing the search engines are going to look for.  Domain names can be very expesive, if someone has one you want.  Granted, there is only so much you can do with them, but having mortage in the domain name would be a good idea.

PS - edit - try doing a search for "homes for sale in gainesville"

Ann, on your domain with your name, it is somewhat difficult to tell where your first name ends.  That could be why the search engines may not recognize it.  One thing you could do is use a dash between first and last name, eg ann-sabbagh.  Another thing to do is to add a page to the domain like this: http://www.seacoastmortgage/ann-sabbagh.

Now that I mention it, I think I need to do that with my own name! :)

I took my own advice and changed my 'About Me' web page html address to:

http://www.bradyinspects.com/ralph-brady.html  bradyhomeinspection.com & humboltinspector.com are mirrors of bradyinspects.  The mirror sites are only about $10.00 - $15.00 per year - well worth it.
