Raising The Bar By Doing Hard Things! 5 Things You Can Do To Improve Your Business And Your Life!

Raising The Bar By Doing Hard Things! 5 Hard Things You Can Do To Improve Your Business And Your Life!

Have you ever had a full circle moment? A moment that tied choices that are weighing on your mind and provided you the answers needed to make a hard decision. I have been evaluating my real estate business direction recently in an attempt to build a business plan for my lasting future as a REALTOR©. In coming off my best year ever in 2009 I hesitate in making changes, but realize that in these tough economic times you must adapt to survive and never fear change.

My full circle moment was yesterday during our church worship service. For the past fifteen years since I accepted Jesus as my savior I have prayed for guidance with all major decision in my life. My business decisions are no different, I ask for guidance through prayer. This afternoon my prayers were answered through a very unique message, brought to us by the youth of our church. This message was on 'Raising The Bar By Doing Hard Things' and was based on the book Do Hard Things by twin brothers Alex and Brett Harris. This book was written for teens and challenges them to rebel against the status quo and exceed expectations that limit them. We can learn a lot form the main points of this book that can be applied to our real estate business and our lives.

I learned 5 hard things that I plan to do to improve my real estate business and life, I thought I would share them with you. Maybe we can all grow together.

1. Do things that are outside your comfort zone.

2. Do more than is expected or required of you.

3. Do things that are too big to accomplish on your own.

4. Do things that have no immediate 'payoff'.

5. Do things that challenge the norm. Think outside the box.

May you be inspired to Do Hard Things!

Cindy,

Something I am completely missing here. If this was your stellar year, why would you do these strange things?

When we are choking because there is little business, we need to do something we did not do before, as our before was not good.

But if your before works fine, why get out of your comfort zone, do things that are too big, and other challenging things.

These things are done to change the status quo. Are you unhappy with the best year in your career?

Jon, Great question! While I would like 2010 to be a bigger year than 2009 the decisions I have been debating involve going out on my own verses staying with my current brokerage. Would I be better off to stay put or am I only doing so because of fear of the unknown? This is how the message helped me. But I do feel it is universal in helping if you are struggling in your business as well!

Michael,

More of our young people need to be reading books like this, instead of books about a family of vegetarian vampires. LOL. Maybe realistically I should say in addition to the 'Vampire' books. Thanks for commenting.
