I'm Sorry Your Community Has Moved

Let's face it yesterday is gone.  We no longer come together as a community like in the past.  I know in my neighborhood we don't have neighborhood barbeque's or talk on the phone with our neighbors for hours.  We tweet and blog now.  The community has moved - moved online.

It is hard as a real estate agent today with the Do Not Call List.  People don't want to be bothered.  When you get home from the office you just want to sit in front the TV and crash.  It was hard day and people want to be left alone.  If people want a product they get it online.

Online shopping has become more and more popular although some of still love window shopping.  Online you find the best deals without walking the entire mall.  With just one click it is sent right to you.

The news has changed as well.  No longer are news reporters choosing what not to air.  They choose what they need to air.  Between You Tube and Hulu you can find out what is going on in the world at any given moment.

Social Media has overtaken the web as the number one activity online.  1 in every 8 couples who married last year met online.  Facebook added over 100 million users in less than 9 months.

80% of twitter users tweet from their mobile phone.  Keep that in mind next time you piss someone off.

Very interesting Melissa. I agree with you. But I do miss the bygone days of neighborhood get togethers.

I wish I could have experienced it.  It seems I grew up in front of the computer.  Thanks for the comment Dan.

Melissa, I think this is really a sad phenomenon and it is up to us to network in person with the people around us!

Online socialization has it's place, for sure, but it should NOT eliminate human interaction!

Thanks for sharing this post. I had not heard of this movie.

It's funny Don I had to do an entire report on this for Sociology in college.  How the world is changing and what the internet has created.  This was before the movie came out though.  I haven't seen it I was just thinking about it after reading an article featured in Realtor.  Thanks for the post.

It is very scary to think that the only way we can communicate is through an avatar. Sooner or later you have to learn how to interact with the "real" world.

It's very true Lisa.  It's just so much easier online and I know I tend to take the easy way out sometimes.

There are some areas here where there are still the neighborhood get togethers. Part of it is that we are a very small town.

There are still small communities where they try to preserve neighborhood type gatherings and everyone knows each other. Hendersonville still has a good bit of that charm. Changing with the times happens but some things would be very beneficial for society to revisit and head back to. Sue of Robin and Sue

I'm not a "gamer" but it can still be all too easy to get lost inside your computer! I do alot of internet marketing. But face to face - beats facebook!

Its true face to face is always better it just seems harder and harder to do lately.  Hopefully the trend will come back.  Brad Paisley has a song "so much cooler online"  its really funny because you never know who you are talking to.
