The Heart of Virginia Festival is an age old tradition here in Southside Virginia. This writer can't tell you exactly when it originated but I can tell you of the joy and laughter it brings our community. About this time of year, when the leaves on the trees are in full growth, the Town of Farmville starts buzzing around getting ready for the annual event which attracts thousands from near and far.
Some people think of it as a homecoming of sorts, as others come for the good music, food and fireworks. It seems the Heart of Virginia Festival is a melting pot of young and old. Kids chasing each other with pop guns, while Mom and Dad check out the streets lined with venders showing off there finest handcrafted wares.
This year's Heart of Virginia Festival will be Saturday May 1st in downtown Farmville. So whether you've been thinking of visiting Farmville, you're looking for weekend entertainment or just need to see a great example of small town Americana...come down to the Heart of Virginia Festival this weekend.
