I STRUCK IT RICH! ! !

I LOVE ROCKS.  I love rocks around my yard.  But, those dang things are expensive.  Once I got to a point in my new house that I could focus on growing grass in the back yard, I noticed the the really bare spots were where rocks were visible right at the surface.  Not knowing what was underground, I spoke with the gentleman that cuts my grass to see if he could UNEARTH some of these rocks so I could use them for landscaping.  Landscaping rocks for new or resale homes in Loudoun County cost a bloody fortune.  Of course, I don't have the bill from Jeremy, the landscaping gentleman who is doing the heavy lifting.

WOW! !   Did I strike it rich.  There is a vein of rock just off my driveway.  I recall seeing these beautiful rocks around the yard when the grading was being done.  I told the builder to leave all of the rocks unearthed over 1 foot in diameter.  Of course, they ignored me and hauled the rocks away, probably to sell the to the rock place in Leesburg.  Most homes in this area of Loudoun County with any acreage will have rock outcroppings.  Settlers in past times build beautiful rock fences on their farms.  These rock fences are 300-400 years old and just a lovely today as they were then.

What a perfect place for a spring bulb bed.

The pictures are not showing and I was to see the rocks!  I love rocks, too, but my honey doesn't.  He doesn't like to trim around them.  I fought for and won a rock at our farm.  It was so big the bulldozer has to roll it up the driveway to get it where I wanted it.  It's great for sitting on and watching the stars at night or using to steady a gun when shooting.  The plan was for daisies to grow around it, but they turned to weeds because we aren't there often enough.  See if you can fix your pictures.  I'm dying to see them.

I'm with you Lenn!  I love rocks in landscaping.  We seem to grow rocks up here, except in my yard!  Many times, while I'm out and about, I'll see rocks in other people's yards, and just dream of having some of my own.  And I mean sizeable rocks, too, not the smaller ones I actually do have placed around on top of the mulch in places.

As Bonnie said, I hope the pictures get fixed, as I'd love to see your pictures of the rocks!

I should ship you some rocks from my town.  We often say that the State Flower of CT is the rock.  We have miles of stone walls throughout the town similiar to the one in this photo.  Thought to have been built back in the 1800's or so.

I don't know what happened to the photos.  I see them fine on my ActiveRain connection.

I'll put them on a web page and send a link.
