Recommendation: Louis' Barber Shop, North Town Tacoma

One of the pains of moving to a new neighborhood is finding new services. I've been looking for a good barber and walked into Louis' Barber Shop this morning to try it out. Not only did I get a great cut at a very low price ($10!), I met a fascinating barber.

Loc is Vietnamese and speaks heavily accented English, but his story is worth hearing. He was studying to be a physician in South Vietnam when he was drafted into the SVA and promoted to officer status. When Saigon fell, he was made a prisoner-of-war and spent eight years trying to find enough food to survive. Many of his fellow prisoners died.

Somehow he got out and made his way to the Philippines, and from there up to Bremerton, WA. Unable to gain admission to medical school, he learned a trade. After six years, he moved to Tacoma and has operated his barb2615 North 21st Streeer shop for the last 13.

He's cheerful, a careful barber, and has a great, positive philosophy. Worth your custom just to listen to his story--even if you shave your head. He has my highest endorsement.

Please tell him I sent you.
