When you recruit, are you searching for diversity or do you tend to hire because of personality and sociability? Hiring similar agents may be a pleasant, fit right in, scenario for the newly hired agent, but is it the best situation for the production in an office? Diversity is imperative in order to develop and maximize the full potential of an office.
Some managers focus on the superficial qualities of the agent who is interviewing. Personality is important, but it's not the most important factor. Remember, this interview is for the purpose of working for the good of the company not joining a sorority. Social acceptability is a factor on the list, but it's at the bottom of my list.
We do not have to party together. We do not have to be interwoven socially. What we need to provide is the ability to work profitably for the good of the company. Honesty, dependability, specialized in a field and professionalism are key factors that I need to find during an interview. Past work history and success in production are important issues to discuss. My preference is to hire the "individual, independent working agent" rather than creating a clique within the office. Diversity counts.
