Let The Games Begin - World Cup 2010, Day 7

Day 6 of World Cup 2010 brought us 3 winners and to the end of the first half of Round 1.  Let's hope the second half of Round 1 is better.  Are the top rated teams just taking it for granted that they will reach the finals?  Would have loved, to be a fly, on the wall of Spain's dressing room after their defeat.

Chile defeated Honduras 1 - 0, Switzerland upset Spain with a 1 - 0 win and our host Country South Africa was defeated 3 - 0 by Uruguay.  Is this the end for South Africa?

Thursday June 17, 2010 World Cup 2010 enters Day 7.

The time has come for the teams to pull of their socks if they have any thoughts of moving forward.  Who really wants the 2010 World Cup? We will see soon as the second half of Round 1 continues.

Game 18 will be between France and Mexico and played at Peter Mokaba Stadium (Polokwane), with a capacity for the World Cup of 46,000.

Game 19 will be between Greece and Nigeria and played at Free State (Bloemfontein), with a capacity for the World Cup of 48,000.

Game 20 will be between Argentina and South Korea at Soccer City (Johannesburg), with a capacity for the World Cup of 94,700.

How about a quick quiz, what flag belongs to what country... good luck.

Al and Peggy:  Those are huge capacities for those stadiums in other countries!  Soccer has such a huge following.

Hi Guys, with this writing, 2 down and 1 to go as Argentina and Greece both won their matches. Spainwas a huge disappointment yesterday as they are one of the favorites to win. Argentina also has a strong team. It's shaping up that for the finals it will be the usual suspects with maybe 3 of 4 from South America. Goallllllooooooooo

Awaiting Sundays game. My house hosts several screaming Italians for the morning game. Better tell my chickens to lay more eggs.

Al and Peggy,

I am afraid it is the end of team Bafana. Although they are not out, it would take almost a miracle for them to advance to the round of 16 (but I did find an unexpected video/song that can hopefully chear them up for victory in their next game).

It is interesting that game 18 is taking place after games 19 and 20.  Game 18 between France and Mexico will be no doubt be an interesting matchup.  Both teams are know to be power houses when it comes to soccer but unfortunately, the loser of the match will most likely not make it to the round of 16.
