Nicolas, Our Hero, Shaving His Head for "Hugs for Kids"

By
Real Estate Agent with Quantum One Realty

As most know, Nick M, is a funny, interesting and talented great guy.  Today we learn even more about his kind and soft side as he has made the commitment to raise money to help the underprivileged kids through "Hugs for Kids" as described in his latest blog "Shave Your Head for Charity--Nick's Fund Raiser".

Nick and JimAs quoted from the Hugs for Kids website:  The mission of Hugs for Kids is "To prevent child abuse and neglect by providing education and support to strengthen families".  Child abuse and neglect occur in all segments of our society, but the risk factors are greater in families in which parents seem to be having economic, housing or personal problems; are isolated from their families or community; have difficulty controlling anger; abuse alcohol or drugs; have little to no education; and were abused or neglected as children (Prevent Child Abuse America, 2003).

There is never enough funds to help in even some of the simplest needs.  Therefore, Nick is making the BIG SACRIFICE of shearing his locks to bring awareness and funds to Hugs for Kids and what it is doing.

We support Nick and Hugs for Kids and hope to see many more support his efforts in raising at least $5,000 for needed supplies.

Ruth, I read his post this am and am so excited that he is doing this. It is so hard to get people to give to a good organization like this, trust me I know. I hope and pray he exceeds his 5K mark. I'm behind him 100%. Thanks for bringing this back up!

I just read your comment in Nicks blog, you two rock!

Thanks for your post Ruth and Jim. you guys are so supportive in every aspect, personal and professional. hard to find people like that these days :)

Sharon, i wish the hair was long enough for Locks of Love, as i've given them hair before. this will only be donation cash donated to Hugs for Kids, and the hair is too short, so it hits the trash.

i'm looking forward to being humbled again :)       bbbuzzzzzzzzzz

Ruth- thanks for pointing out the humanitarian efforts of another in our field and Nick- you da man for puting your scalp where your mouth is! All too often we hear nothing but bad, and it is a pleasure to hear how some of us are concerned with the bigger picture. Hats off... or maybe hat's on, we didn't see a picture of the "after" yet..

Nick ~ I have donated to locks of love, too.  I do not believe that as yet I am brave enough to be with zero hair on my head.  So thank you for taking this stand.  Way cool and much success wished to you.

Ruth & Jim ~ What amazing friends and support Mr. M has!  Thank you for adding to his publicity.

Nick,  You are special and we support your efforts both personally and professionally.  With a team we can accomplish so much more than individually.  Let's raise lots of money for Hugs for Kids.

Rob,  We will be reporting on the progress and definitely on the final results, including a video of the main event of "da man".  Thanks for your support.

Will never understand this shaving the head idea that crops up for projects like this. There are other ways to support a project rather than shaving one's head.

Hi Bob & Carolin.. i'm open to any suggestions you may have to raise additional money. this was my way of helping a non profit to raise money, i'm not the type to do a 10K marathon or anything like that.. so this works for me.. and those who know my ways will agree.

i hope that any others that share your viewpoint, can overcome the 'shaving' act and realize the purpose it serves.

Ruth - I am so glad you wrote this post.  With all of our help, this fund raising event should be a total success.  Here's my post on it:

Shave your head for charity - Let's help Nick's fund raiser

Bob and Carolin - it has nothing to do with shaving one's head, it has to do with good faith from a fellow Active Rainer - and showing that he can sacrifice his beautiful head of hair (one that many would be envious of), for a great cause.  I hope you will join in with the efforts.

Nick, Thanks for putting the address on the blog.  Look forward to all the fund raising checks.

Ines & Rick, Thank you for your support.  We know Nick's sincerity and desire to raise these monies for less fortunate.  And shearing his beautiful hair is a great sacrifice in order to call attention to this worthy cause.

Cynthia,  As you can see, Nick still has a full head of hair.  We are going to make the shearing date a big day.  Signed photos are a great idea, Nick.  We'll be there........
