Why Are We Advertising the National Flood Insurance Program?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Erik Elsea-Jones & Co. Realty

As an extremely busy Realtor® here in Fort Myers Florida, I rarely get the chance to sit down and watch TV. I try to keep up on sports and the news. So as little as I get to watch TV I have been surprised that over the last two weeks I have seen so many commercials touting the benefits of the National Flood Insurance Program and the need for homeowners to purchase it. The problem with that is that they can't purchase flood insurance. Congress has yet to reauthorize the program leaving many people uninsured and unable to purchase homes when their lender requires flood insurance in order to close.

So why would our government advertise something they can't sell. Hopefully it is FEMA trying to convince constituents who are affected by the lack of Congress reauthorizing the program to contact their representatives and voice their support for NFIP. This issue will be brought up again this week. Please contact your Congressmen and Senators to support NFIP so we can get this passed.
