So, you did the Fourth of July, now what to do the next weekend? Try the PEND OREILLE VALLEY LAVENDER FESTIVAL in Newport, Washington. Some of my favorite bands and musicians are spieling there, and there is lots to do.

I spent a while talking with Sandy Loskill and Janet Lamberth on my show North Idaho Business today broadcast on KSPT and KBFI. Here is what they told me:

The 7th annual Pend Oreille Valley Lavender Festival will be held July 10th and 11th at the Park at First and Calispel in Newport, Washington. This is a juried show of high-quality art, artisan and horticulture products in a shaded Tuscan garden setting. The event features a wine tasting with regional vintners, a microbrewery, culinary delights, live music by our area's finest players, flowers, lure casting, model trains, children's art activities, and lavender in a beautiful, relaxed atmosphere. Newport is just forty minutes west of Sandpoint following the Wild Horse Trail and the Historic Pend Oreille River Passage. It is one of the West's most beautiful drives.

Along the way, stop and visit Albeni Dam, and check out the new digs at Riley Creek Recreation area; it is very cool.

Newport is just an hour north of Spokane and Coeur d'Alene.

1. Shop in Downtown Newport:

Maps available in local shops will guide you to several great shops in historic buildings. Shops offer a great selection of unique offerings including unique clothes, gifts and decor, kitchen items, and more. Things you will love! Owens Deli still serves old fashioned fountain drinks at the original counter!
