The Prospect Terrace Park

Where it all began on the night of June 26, 2010 as we met at 8:00pm at the Prospect Terrace Park, also referred as Prospect Park, on the east side of Providence,

Roger Williams

RI called the Eastside, on Congdon Street (formerly known as Bowen Street). This park is located at the top of college hill because we have Brown University and the RI School of Design located on this Eastside of Providence, RI. A main attraction to this park is the 35 ft stone statue of RI's founder, Roger Williams, who history writes was kicked out of Massachusetts and he came to RHODE ISLAND. He faces and overlooks his plantation, the city of Providence, this statue was created by Leo Friedlander after Stephen Randall, Roger Williams descendant made a deed gift for its construction here since this was considered the colonial Village Cemetery at the time 1867.  The remains of Roger Williams were transferred to the base of this sculpture next to an apple tree. It is written " Here reposes dust from the remains"

to be continued......

It does have a great view!  Looks like a great foreward thinking in the 1860's to set aside the land for the park!

DIANE: I have always loved being in a large city however you have a point how relaxing to be surrounded by trees or as you say forest and wildlife. If I were to ever leave the city I would want to look out and see lots of water.
