GRSP Students Arrive in Augusta, GA for Conclave

Wow, what a weekend.  I forgot how tiring college life was.  My husband and I had the opportunity to host two international students this weekend and it was amazing.

There are currently 71 students from 23 different countries attending University's across the State of Georgia being hosted through the Georgia Rotary Student Program. These young people have been in Georgia for just a few weeks and traveled to Augusta for a Conclave this weekend.  To say it was a NON-STOP weekend would be an understatement. (A nap is diffently in my future.)

I won't go into all the details but I will tell you about the highlight of the whole weekend.  Saturday evening these 71 students came together after only a few hours preparation to but on a "talent show of sorts" for their host families and other Rotarians.  It was awesome.  Some could sing (other could not) some danced traditional dances (some tried to dance) and others simply told us what the last few weeks had been like for them.  They worked together as a team after only having meet the day before regardless of religion, culture, or politics.  Each proud of their country and their heritage and willing to share that with each of us.  These 71 students are forever united as the GRSP Class of 2007-2008.

Peace is possible if we come together. I've seen it, I believe it!

Are you a Rotarian?  This sounds like a good program, and a larger Post, more details with pictures of the activities would be great.....I was the International Chair for our Rotary club a couple years ago.

Kathy,

Yes, I'm a Rotarian.  This is a great program that we have here in Georgia.  I'll work on the photos and giving more information about the program.  This might even be something that could work into a great NAR program.
