Trader Joe'sThey are coming to South Kansas City----finally. Watch for Trader Joe's in the Ward Parkway Shopping Center at 85th & Ward Parkway in 2011.

I'll admit that I've never shopped at a Trader Joe's store. I know. But, I've heard from so many people who passionately love the stores, and will travel for miles to go and stock up...as well as experience, well, the experience of shopping there. So, now I can move from keeping track on Facebook with groups of people devoted to bringing Trader Joe's to Kansas City - to seeing for myself!

In the meantime, I did a little research on their website. Okay, what's the difference between them, and say Price Chopper, or Hen House? They say that at "Trader Joe's, you won't find a lot of branded items. Instead, you'll find unconventional and interesting productsin the Trader Joe's label as well as everyday basics. We buy products we think are winners and that'll find a following among our customers. Sometimes it's a product we intend to stock as long as it sells well; and sometimes we buy a product which is in limited supply, sell through it, and you won't find it again. It's all part of the shopping adventure at Trader Joe's."

Even though I am a creature of habit, and very dedicated to specific products and brands, I'll give it a try and just hope that they won't discontinue something that I find, and love.

According to their website, the stores carry about 2,000 low price, high quality items, nearly 80 percent of them under the Trader Joe's brand. Trader Joe's also is known for its Charles Shaw label of wines, dubbed the Two-Buck Chuck in some markets.

They say that they work to be a part of the neighborhood. They take requests for donations and involvement in community events in their stores whether it's a silent auction to benefit a local elementary school, or a health fair sponsored by a community hospital. That sounds wonderful to me coming from a community here in Kansas City where our schools and charities can use all of the help they can get.

Each store actually has its own Donations Coordinator. They think getting to know the organizations that are important to the communities makes them better neighbors. Then, they directly ask the question: "What's Your Neighborhood Grocery Store doing in your neighborhood now?" Interesting!

Welcome to Kansas City!

Yup. I'd be blogging about that as well! I love Trader Joe's. A blog about Trader Joe's being one of Danville CA Faves was a very early blog of mine!
