What the world needs now is Love, sweet love

By

This old song comes to mind today. It was a great sentiment then and still is. Thank you Burt Bacharach. Yesterday I went to the grocery store and passed a woman wearing a shirt with this saying on it... much larger and bolder than the example I found here...

Although I agree with the basic idea, should we as children of the living God choose to advertise it in this way? There is no love in this message for those who have gone through it. I liken it to a time when I killed a spider in a web that was blocking my entrance into a home I was showing. The woman with my friend I was showing the house to was a Buddist. I may have just murdered one of her past relatives in her mind. I was made aware of how that made her feel at that time.

So where is the love of Jesus in this shirt? If you are displaying this and a woman like the one in a recent post by Joni Staples walked past you, how do you think this would help? How would this make them feel? We are not warring against people who have abortions. It is legal in our country. We are warring against spirits that have allowed this to happen on our watch. This shirt will not ever change the laws. Many women who have had abortions regret their decisions and are trying to get past it. This wouldn't help them to see the light that can help them, this would drive them away even further.

We in the Kingdom have a mandate to become the model which is Jesus Christ. Jesus would gather an abortionist in and love them as He would someone who chose to go through one.

Then there are those women who really feel in their hearts that it is not murder or wrong. What hope does wearing this shirt give them of ever wanting to seek out Jesus? My guess is absolutely none. It would only drive a bigger wedge between them.

But then, I'm crazy enough to think that there is grace for the cold blooded mass murders in this world... if they truly seek Him and accept Him before their last breath. Casting Crowns says it very well in:

"What This World Needs"

What this world needs is not another one hit wonder with an axe to grind
Another two bit politician peddling lies
Another three ring circus society
What this world needs is not another sign waving super saint that's better than you
Another ear pleasing candy man afraid of the truth
Another prophet in an Armani suit

What this world needs is a Savior who will rescue
A Spirit who will lead
A Father who will love them in their time of need
A Savior who will rescue
A Spirit who will lead
A Father who will love
That's what this world needs

What this world needs is for us to care more about the inside than the outside
Have we become so blind that we can't see
God's gotta change her heart before He changes her shirt
What this world needs is for us to stop hiding behind our relevance
Blending in so well that people can't see the difference
And it's the difference that sets the world free

Jesus is our Savior, that's what this world needs
Father's arms around you, that's what this world needs
That's what this world needs

The concept is so simple, to love and be an example, but easier said than done.

There are so many ways that I can respond to this blog, here's just a few:

1. As a Christian, or even a person of faith, what is your duty to prevent the termination of an innocent life? Just because it is legal, doesn't make it right. If it upsets a person who had an abortion, then maybe it would shame them from making another mistake.

2. God is naturally pro-choice. A miscarriage is an abortion of a wanted child. Since God allows miscarriages, we can assume that God is pro-choice.

3. You say the world needs love and I agree. However, the unborn child that was aborted needs the same love.

4. For the non-believers or those who take a pro-choice/pro-abortion stance, maybe it can start a healthy debate.

And Finally...

5. If equality really exists between men and woman, where are the t-shirts promoting giving Men a "Choice to abort" out of their responsibilities??? Her body, her choice? Then her sole responsibility! By placing the sole responsibility unto the sole decision maker, maybe we'll have fewer abortions.

I think something like "Choose Life" or some other more positive message could have said the same thing and have provided more out reach.  There are a number of hurting people who have chosen abortion that need healing.  A t-shirt like that just causes them to pull away and not move towards healing.

How about a tee shirt that says "Abortion is NOT your only choice -- Let's Talk! (888) Pro-Life." (of course the real numbers that could  be on the tee would be the pregnancy care center or other org.).

Bob & Bonnie - very well stated. Compassion and understanding will go further than condemnation. We were not set here to judge another's souls or intentions. That is left for a higher power.

Bob,

I prefer to pray outside of abortion cliics. Furhtrt frightening of the young scared girls is of no help. On the other hand I am quite difficult on the workers and especially the doctors who should know better. The abortion issue is my number two issue in life after saving souls aND MY OPINIONS AND ACTIONS TEND TO RUN VERY PASSIONATELY.

Catherine: Thanks for commenting and taking the time to read this post. I know what you mean but prefer to think of it as easier done than taking the time to say it. It really isn't that hard when we get ourselves out of the way and put on Jesus' robe. We once were hosting a small group in our house. One couple told of how their son-in-law had done all these awful things to their daughter. When we prayed, I prayed for the son-in-law and they were offended by that. I just prayed what I heard the Father praying for. Many Blessings.

Satar: Shame is not a feeling we should put on anyone. Satan does enough of that. I would recommend reading Discovering the Mind of a Woman by Ken Nair. Blessings.

Gene: That was exactly how I felt. Blessings.

Joni: Absolutely the best idea yet! Thanks and Blessings.

Mike: Thank you for the exhortations. I agree whole heartedly. Blessings.

Hugh: That's a much more fruitful and productive way to go about it. Those who help and perform these procedures are doing it legally and also deserve our love though. We should not fall asleep on this issue however and keep praying for Roe V Wade to be overturned someday. Thank you for your passion on this issue. Thanks for sharing.

Mike: Pardon the pun, but isn't that like throwing the baby out with the bathwater? If you search for a podcast at iBethel.org and find the podcast by a Kris Valloton called "Babies are just dying to come out", it's the absolute best definition of what abortion is and how it happened on our watch and how we can eradicate it. It's a question of changing core values... which is happening. He states that the most recent Gallop poll showed that 51% of Americans polled are now pro life. That number has never been that high in the history of Gallop. The tide is turning but I hate to see those who made that mistake, and we all know someone who did as 1-4 women have had an abortion, be shamed over and over by it. He also stated in other countries like Russia, the average woman, keyword being average, has had 8 abortions. It's all been done by dehumanizing the fetus. The exact same way Hitler was able to extinguish 6 million Jews and we here, enslaved the African black man.

Everyone: 98% of all abortions in this country are because of unwanted or untimely pregnancies. 1.7% are because of the protecting the mother's health and .3% are because of rape and incest. .3%! Why can't we talk about it from the point of view of woman's rights. If we could contain this procedure to just 2% of the pregnancies? Wouldn't that be all a woman needs to protect their rights? It's become a social issue, meaning the government is all for keeping the population of the people's groups that make the most demand on social services, which can not afford the services currently provided. That is why this law is so hard to overturn... but it will be overturned in my lifetime. I will not hand this curse on to my grandchildren. But I won't make anyone feel bad for making a mistake either in the process.

Anyone who has had an abortion or been a party to the process needs healing, forgiveness and love. God can remove the shame so that lives can be restored. We need to reach out in a compassionate, positive way!

Excellent post and I just love Joni's suggestion! Most women really don't want to abort their babies. They are just scared or being pressured by others to do so...they need support!
