Singing in the Rain I'm just singing in the Rain ah you know the rest. Yes it is time to go walk another farm. I will definitely be a little wiser this time and pay attention to the weather channel before scheduling this next "walkabout".
As you can see last time I did not plan so well so it was rather wet. My loving wife did happen to buy me some better boots though just in case I do not plan so well again.
I always schedule (time appropriate to size) to walk the land on any farm that I list. I search out all the major aspects, any streams, ponds, or any natural water feature. Then of course a good walk through of any buildings, barns, tobacco barns, storage buildings, or whatever else I find.
If there is farm land and I think the highest and best use is for agricultural/crops, I will have the soil tested for those fields. The NC Department of Agriculture is good about helping out with that. It just takes some time.
Using satellite imagery I will walk the boundries. I cannot wait to try my Ipad's mapping function. By using a printout of the GIS map off the register of deeds site I can compare it to the GPS map on my Ipad and while I walk see exactly where I am on the map.
So while the next one is only 60 acres it will be more of a challenge since it has not been cleared or had any fields tended in quite awhile. I prefer it to be a little cooler so all our little cold blooded nature friends are all holed up somewhere. If not no worries just wear my higher boots and make lots of noise.
