The SKY is Falling !!! The Sky is Falling !!!

Ok so we all know the market is down. How are we all surviving?. There are some things that I have found to help so I will share them with you.

1 Diversify. We all tell our clients they should diversify in Real estate . But do we? If you sell large tracts of land primarily look at selling some homes or smaller tracts. Maybe solicit some builders. Maybe look at on line for low or no cost solutions for getting your message out. If you work with sellers market to buyers. I have found that this approach has worked well. We all hear niche but hey, some niches are dry right now so no matter how hard you work in them you get dust.

2 Expenses. So who wants to hear about belt tightening ! I have one simple rule in this market . If the expense does not have the  direct potential of generating business then I don't do it. It gets to be simple. Money now needs to be spent on generating leads/sales. Keep the old office desk another year!!!

3 Network. Misery DOES love company so network with agents in other areas. If they are in a down market they may know folks moving to yours. Who do they send the referrals to ? And you should do the same. That may mean asking a couple of different questions when you prospect. Instead of OH you are moving to Detroit, have a nice trip. You should be saying I have a network I belong to and can help you select a quality agent in Detroit.

These are the 3 thing I am doing to survive in this market. I WELCOME suggestions and hearing about what you are doing. Because after all misery REALLY does love company

Thanks, Charlie.  We are in a wonderful industry.  I have had some of my very best years when the market was "bad"!

Thanks for the nice blog Charlie...

It's times like this when we all have to think of new ways to get business, new strategies, new ideas....I myself am working on building up my agent referral network. When you get a card from me, I hope you keep it and remember me if you have anyone moving to New Jersey!

Charlie,  Good advice here, thanks for writing to us.  I will take your advice and call a market segment I have not focused on, also will write to other AR Realtors to see what they are doing to combat the market slowdown.  Continue to post any other marketing ideas that are productive.

Thank you for your post. But I believe that for some of us your 3 points list wont be enough to survive...
