16 Degrees of Disgusted

By

This past weekend I posted a photo showing the, at that time, fresh and pristine coating of snow that had dusted Bellingham and Whatcom County. It was almost pretty enough to put on a Christmas card.

It is now Tuesday and the weather has turned warmer again and then colder again, sixteen degrees outside right now, and the roads and the sidewalks have turned trecherous. And the blanket of snow is, of course, now brown ice.

I just got back from walking to the tire store to get studded tires put on my company truck, something I have not had to resort to in five years. But, the other day, I had to go north to Blaine and I thought it unwise and unsafe to be fishtailing down the road.

As it is, other than winterizing my rental properties, things got pretty slow in the inspection field this week. I was slammed last week and had, potentially, a difficult inspection for today out in the county but that was cancelled and that is a real relief. I am warming up after the cold walk this morning, prior to going back out for awhile. I am disgusted with how hard it is to do your day to day work in this weather. They say it will get down to 7 degrees tonight and that is very cold in the maritime northwest. At least the normally hard working cats are taking it easy and staying warm.

I agree, fresh snow is so beautiful, but it does get old after a day or so.  Luckily in Denver, it snows and melts quickly with our mile high elevation.  Hang in there!  Hot Chocolate cures these ailments nicely.

Brrrr....I can't even imagine a temperature that cold right now. I heard we were going to get that chill factor in here right after Thanksgiving.

You are obviously not used to snow. I had to chuckle when you mention needing studded snow tires. Do they still make those?

James,

Of course they do. The problem is that nobody is used to snow here, so driving is largely a case of avoiding other cars that are like missiles.

I lived in Colorado for a short while when I was seven and I saw my very first snow. It was so beautiful until it turn an ugly brown and like slushy.

I love the first fallen snow but agree with you Steven. Brown ice isn't pretty!

Steve, you cannot use the word "cat" and "hard working" in the same sentence.
