Happy Holidays

This week's meeting began with an invocation by Mark SchmidtDiane Rothi leds us in the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a rousing version of Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer suggested by new grandpa John Broussard Bryan "Eddie" Nash led us in reciting the Rotary Four Way Test.

Anniversaries/ Birthdays:

John Broussard celebrated his birthday on November 29th with a family dinner at the Broussard

home.  He also announced the birth of his 5th grandchild that was born yesterday.. its a girl,

Anna Margarite

Christie Sense celebrated her birhtday the day before Thanksgiving and husband Eric took over all the cooking responsibilies for Thanksgiving.

Steve and Nancy Kawa celebrated a wedding anniversary.

Wayne Silzel and his bride celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.

 

Announcements:

Greg Mills announced there is an exchange student who is coming to Villa Park High from January

to May.  She is from Germany and is named Alexa Neumann.  She will be a Junior at VPHS.

Anyone interested in having her stay at your home please contact Greg.

Nominations for Officers and Board Members for the 2011-2012 year are due by next week.

Our next meeting is the Club Assembly where each Committee Chair will give us an update on the

progress they've made in the last several months.  The slate of officers and board members will be

introduced by President-Elect Bryan "Eddie" Nash.

Greg is also going to create a  committee to start planning for a new spring fundraiser in the May/June time period. Let him know if your interesting in joining.

Pam Dunn- the BY INVITATION ONLY fundraiser is next Thursday night from 5-9 PM.  Please get your evites out ASAP.  If you want them sent out from the company please forward your list to Pam.

Rick Barnett thanked everyone who helped make this year's Marine for Thanksgiving Event a success.  Those members that hosted marines included: Brad Reese, Greg Mills, Jill Kuli, Terri Brooks, Steve Stern, Milt Stamos and Pam Dunn.  119 Marines from Camp Pendleton enjoyed Thanksgiving Dinner with 38 families living in Villa Park.  To view photos of the event go to www.VillaParkMarineThanksgiving.org  .  Next year Rick hopes to continue to increase participation.

 

Service Chair Minutes:

Jill Kuli- Community Service Chair-encouraged us all to bring  in new or gently used DVDs to send to our troops overseas.

    Bob Meyer collected 3500 DVDs from high schools last week.  The pick-up for DVDs from the

    Orange County Unified School District is scheduled for December 15th( Wednesday) at the

    District Office on Katella and Handy.  Bob will need help packing up the DVDs on December

     16th( Thursday).  He also brought 180 pounds of chocolate that was donated by an Orthodontist

      to the Friendly Center just in time for their upcoming holiday party.

Pete Moriarty- Membership Chair - announced that we have three potential new members:

     Will Warren from the new Union Bank

      Tom Grundy and Dan Cregg who is being reinducted after a long illness.

 

Happy Bucks:

Jay Applebaum helped the Orange North Rotary Club reheat Turkey for the We Give Thanks event at the Honda Center on Thanksgiving Morning.  Approximately 20,000 thanksgiving dinners were served. 

Jim Dougherty was happy his "Perpetual Visitor " is still around.

Jill Kuli thanked everyone who sent will wishes and prayers during her recent knee replacement surgery.
