Stop Complaining About ActiveRain, and Start Using the Greatest Referral Network of all time!

Ok, I’m getting kind of sick of the critics of ActiveRain that complain that it doesn’t provide enough buyer/seller leads for the amount of time invested in blogging on the site. I know I just wrote about this, but I still have some frustration to get out.

First of all, according to the results of my questions to ActiveRain members in the last post, nearly all of them had received a direct buyer/seller lead from ActiveRain… but I want to point out something else. I personally feel that the members of AR that aren’t getting any leads are either extremely new, don’t participate enough, or just flat out don’t know how to use it properly.

I realize that it’s a community website, and that many members aren’t there to generate business, but to build relationships, and add to the water cooler conversation. And that’s great! More power to you… But to those of us that have chosen AR as a means to generate business, I think it’s important that we all know how to us AR to it’s full potential.

How can the average agent on ActiveRain generate consistent business for themselves besides the obvious (Localism)? *** REFERRALS ***

ActiveRain has got to be the single best place to make and receive agent to agent referrals anywhere on the web. I look at it like a year round 24/7 real estate convention where you can meet new people, network, build friendships, and build a referral network!

Have agents forgotten about referrals? There was a debate recently between the benefits of using Activerain and RealTown. The argument was based around which could produce a better customer response (leads). One of the factors left out of the mix was agent to agent referrals. In my opinion, there is no better place on the internet where real estate agents can meet and create networking opportunities than activerain. There is so much life and activity happening.

Who cares if there aren’t alot of consumers actually viewing the site! Can you even imagine how many customers are represented by the 45,000 members of ActiveRain??? Those are the customers I want!

referrals

There are plenty of opportunities for the person that can get creative. The way I look at AR is as the largest networking opportunity for real estate agents of all time. It’s a goldmine for agents, loan officers, & vendors, and if you play your cards right, it can be a fantastic place for referrals. The skeptic might say: “well I have 100,000 points, and haven’t received any referrals from other AR members. Well… are you actively looking for referrals? Or are you just part of the banter? It’s networking 101. Is there someone that comments on your blog often? Pick up the phone!!! Relationships are the heart of any referral business.

Keep a look out. Your next new customer may be sitting right under your nose…

Good points. There can be always something to complain about if that is what one wants to do -- better use the energy in a positive way than complaining.

Great post Justin. So many times, we get caught up in the online side of this whole thing and leave out the personal touch. Sure, you can build relationships online, but why not take it to the next level by picking up the phone as you mentioned and putting yourself in the front of those agents' minds when a referral comes up? Make some friends. This business is all about relationships and a real relationship is not limited to only online contact. Thanks for sharing!

BTW, what the heck is a grumichama?

A very good post....Well I joined the real estate tomato back at the beginning of the year and I've forgotten my user and password. It's a great site. I think I'll just go back and start all over. Yes AR does work. I got my first lead after about a month. Good advice about writing to your audience.

This is an amazing group.

Before Active Rain it was difficult to find an agent I wanted to recommend to my clients. With Active Rain I feel like I have a good way to determine if another agent is right for my client. Of course- that is if the agent has blogged enough to show up on the radar screen.

You can only get out of it what you put into it. I'm tired of "telling" my peers about it, and attempt to explain why - you hit every nail on its head!

Great post!  The AR community, as I see it in my own humble opinion (IMOHO for you IM'ers out there), is one of "you reap what you sow."  Therefore it you write creative content, timely and valuable information that will help people achieve their goals, etc, then you will reap the rewards that come with it, otherwise the opposite will also hold true.

Thanks Justin for using me as part of your graphic, I appreciate the reference.

What a great post!! We have been ActiveRain members since the end of May and have one listing as a result of a referral from AR and we are working with a buyer as a result of AR. Between our company roster and AR you can't go wrong! It takes time but we believe everyone will get there turn with referrals! Thanks again for sharing such a great post!

Justin:  Great reminder about referrals.  I admit, I tend to forget about that aspect myself.  I just take for granted that I am here so they will come.  Active Rain is an awesome website and I challenge anyone to find something better.  If you do, tell us about it.  If the site is not giving you what you feel you should get then why not move on to something else.  As for me, this is the best tool I've found this year.  I've gotten a few leads and made a couple of referrals in my four months of being a member.

Absolutely.  I've only scratched the surface of the AR potential and I've already gotten major pieces of business as a direct result of my activities on AR.

I agree, this is a great place to build relationships to refer clients to other agents.  I want to know when I refer a client they will be taken care of now.  Last time I did a referral for a client that agent dropped the ball and didn't follow thru.  Lost the deal for me and her.  This is a great place to build relationships with other agents and have resources all over the world.

I found your information quite interesting! I guess most of the complainers do not understand the power of marketing yourself on the internet for business (such as referrals).

I am brand new to Active Rain and my post this morning was about how and why I joined and to ask for referrals.

Thanks for a great post that should really not be taken lightly by those who don't understand the business.

Justin: What a great post.  I have only been on AR a few months and didn't really do much for the first couple of months.  I definitely see the value.  I had looked at BNI but for the money didn't see the value.  I hope to establish some relationships with agents around the country so when they have customes looking for homes in Florida, they will think of me.  I have learned quite a bit on here.  I check everyday to see if there is something new posted that will help me in my business.  Thanks again.

I've been at Active Rain only for a little over a month.  Time flies.  I find it enjoyable in its own right but so far not profitable.
