Christmas Cards

Don't Throw Away Those Used Christmas Cards! -- Before Reading This!

It seems like such a shame to just toss these beautiful and meaningful symbols of the Christmas and Holiday Season.  If you don't already know and feel like taking a little time you can get them prepared to send along to St. Jude's Ranch for Children for their use in the Recycled Card Program.  The Website explains how your donation of cards will be used in their program with a little preparation before mailing them on to St. Jude's.

The kids recycle these used cards into new recycled cards which they than sell.  This program is operated by Kids, Corporation and is run like a business so the children at St. Jude's can learn entrepreneurship and business skills.

The business has been so successful it has been expanded to include All Occasion cards and currently they are looking for both Birthday and Thank You cards to recycle into new cards.

Only the card fronts can be used and because of copyright, etc they can not use Hallmark, Disney or American Greeting cards.  I'm sure they check them when receiving the cards as well.

I'll be getting mine in the mail next week and what a great project for the kids, etc.

May all have a blessed and Happy New Year.

Robin, Sue, that's a great advice - recycling is always a best thing to do. Go Green!

I take off the wording, punch a hole in the upper corner, string metalic cord through the hole and it is a NEXT year Christmas tag!

I've re-used the cards as tags for years but I like this idea better. What a great tip, Sue.

Hi Tammie -- I agree.  I've also found that some senior centers have uses for them.  It's just sooo much better than throwing them in the trash can and knowing they can find another life.

Hi Wallace and Toni -- another good use for some of the cards and generally there are so many cards that both uses can be accomplished -- some for gift card tags and some for St. Jude's or another charity/service that can use them.

Thanks all for stopping by and best wishes for a blessed and prosperous New Year.

What a wonderful idea.  I always think I'll get around to using them myself, but never do.  So this is a way better way to move them along and still feel resourceful.

Now that is a very cool idea! I always hold onto the Christmas cards for a long time because I can't bear to throw them out. Sending them to St. Judes to help the children is perfect!

Hi Jill, Brenda and Maria -- thanks for stopping by and I agree.  Much better to find another useful purpose for these beautiful cards and help kids at the same time.

I'm in the process of getting mine ready to mail cutting them down.

Sue, I love this idea. I hate to throw out cards because some of them are so pretty.  I usually recycle them into tags but I love the idea of sending them to the kids. I'm bookmarking this post.
