Plan Each Day, in the January 31 Day Challenge!

By

Plan each day for success.

Do you have a routine now?  If you do, maybe, you could tweak it to make your day more productive.  Add a breakfast or lunch date with an associate or business vendor.

Set aside time for answering your messages.  Instead of being at the ready, when your phone rings, set up a message that clearly states when you will return your calls for the day.  Example would be, I am not available now, but, if you leave your name and contact information, I will be returning calls today between 10 ~ 11 and again, between 4 ~ 5.  Control your day and when you will be able to answer to that message.  You could add, please call my office if this is an emergency.

Take a breath break.  Whether it is in your vehicle, a park, a beach, a quiet setting, etc., you inhale slowly ,through you nose, then release the air, from you mouth to the count of five.  Try it now.  It's an amazing exercise.  Feel better?  You should do this three times, consecutively.

Drink lots of water.  We think of water when the weather is warm, however, in the winter months, our skin dries out from the heat in our homes and offices.  Hydrate, drink water.

Errands ~ We all have to deal with errands.  Some you can add on your way to or from the office.  Others need to be taken care of at the end of your day.  If you run out of time, I would suggest adding the errand to the next day's priority list for morning errands.

If you are showing homes, be sure to have supplies in your car.  Extra contracts, addendums, flashlights, sand (if you live like I do, in a snowy region), and some snacks.  Often times, we forget to eat.  Have a healthy snack stored in your vehicle.

I plan my day, in the early morning.  Others like to set this up, the night before.  Either way, have a plan.  Even if you wander from it, it will keep you focused on success for that day.

Hoping this offers a tip or two, that will increase your success for 2011!  If you have some good tips to add, please let us know!  Making the day work for you, instead of you working for it, will make that day zoom by!

You are right that we definitely need to plan our day to get the most done...and to be more efficient.  I take a look at my schedule the night before, but like you, I actually PLAN in the mornings.  It is revised throughout the day.  Thank you for sharing your insight!  I definitely forget to eat!

Great suggestions -- I tried that breathing technique and feel better already.  I also like to include note cards with my supplies, just in case.

I like your suggestions Fran. I definitely believe in making a list of what I plan to do each day. It helps, even though I may do something that isn't on my list......it's a guideline and at the end of the day most of the important things are done.

All the Best,

Adell

Karen,

We all forget to eat and drink the water.  I keep water bottles and healthy snacks in the trunk, along with my supplies.

Melanie,

My Coach gave me that one.  When you are really running around ragged, it really does help!  Good idea to keep the note cards with the car supplies:)  Always good to write a note, when you can.  Thanks you:)

Adell,

Getting more doen, is such a good day!  Planning it forward, the more you add, the more that gets done.

Fran, I particulalry like the tip about answering phone calls all at once.  Calls can be disruptive, and to make a time to return them all at once makes great sense.  Thanks!

Frances, I love starting the day with a plan and knowing pretty much what I'm going to get done. Can't be to rigid to allow for those unexpected things.

Frances all of the suggestions are good, but I thought that the "Set aside time for answering your messages" was particularly good.

Connie, Correct, sometimes those unexpected thins that happen, can be good things!

George, Thanks, my Coach gave me that tip:)  I used to let the phone control my day.  No more.  I offered your name to a potential client today!
