Is NAR® Really Working for Me?
Setting aside NARs emphasis on home ownership being The American Dream, and focusing on the dream itself, I think it's fair to say that for the most part people do want to own their own home.
Is NAR® Really Working for Me?
The National Association of REALTORS® is continuing in 2011 to use our $20. community awareness fee to tout the benefits of home ownership. Continuing to call it the American Dream, NAR® has designed TV and radio ads saying:
"There’s a reason home ownership is called the American Dream. People aspire to home ownership for the financial and social benefits it conveys. Our government supports home ownership because it’s good for communities and the nation’s economy."
This message fails to recognize that the American Dream has turned into a nightmare for many, and it sounds out of step with what going on in the housing market.
I also question why we should encourage government participation in what should be a private sector initiative.
IMHO, the Association should be promoting REALTORS® and our Code of Ethics. NAR's job should be to dispel the myths that REALTORS® are only in it for the commission and the belief that our attitude is 'the public be damned'.Click here to view the Public Awareness Campaign.
