Beware the Internet Storm! - Relax - The Weather Will Not Affect Your Internet
Wonder why you can't get on ActiveRain or many other sites out there? I have seen so many random comments, oh it must be the cold weather... yada yada... guess what? NOPE!
If it's cold outside... everyone's inside.. and what are they doing? Well either making babies or surfing the net. My guess is probably the latter. All those fingers a-clickin will do some damage to sites that can't take that much traffic all at once...including ActiveRain.
Other than something physical happening such as a bulldozer cutting the line or a tree falling on a wire, actual cold should not affect your internet.
But here is a bit of info you might not know... Server Administrators WANT their servers to be as cold as possible. Dry, cold air air makes the systems work much better. Overheating is bad and causes harddrives to break, CPU's to crash and power supplies to disable.
Large computer companies typically house thier computers and servers underground for this reason. Even a small operation like us, places a broken hard drive in the freezer overnight to try and get them working again to pull of the data. It has worked on more than one occasion.
Your, internet is either cable, line or satelite based and if you have a phone connection you probably have an internet connectin. Folks in Alaska and Arctic have no problems with this.
So put your fears to rest. If you are having problems with the internet it probably is not the cold weather. Yes, there is a rare chance something could affect a line somewhere but it is very rare and hardly the case.. More than likely all those folks are just on the same site as you at the same time.
Have a good night!! BLOG ON IF YOU CAN! :)
