What does your home mean to you?
I just read a great article in our REALTOR® magazine. It had to do with a song that was named the Country Music Association's song of the year last year. The name of the song is "The House That Built Me", and this article written by Wendy Cold has to do with her meeting with the songwriter, Tom Douglas.
In this interview she has with Tom Douglas, she asks a number of questions relating to his song and how it had come to be. I loved everything he had to say! I guess after reading it, the main point to me was that, "houses are a touchstone for our lives". Isn't that the truth? I can remember the homes I've lived in and the memories that have been created in each one of them.
As the articles states, "houses shape us into the people that we are". I find it interesting that when people come into my home, they always comment that it is inviting or that they feel the warmth within. It pleases me, of course, but I understand it more now after reading this article.
My home is a safe haven from all that goes on outside of it...even the bad stuff. My best evening is coming home, lighting some candles, playing soft music and sitting on the couch in our great room to peruse a magazine or just sit and enjoy my surroundings. I feel at peace. I feel happy!
I loved what Tom Douglas says in his interview regarding how a home is not just four walls or a financial investment. Your home is your heart....It is the house you love! He goes on to say that it is still the dream for most people to be able to own a home. Aren't we lucky as REALTORS that we can be help achieve that dream?
