California's Cancerous Trees
I visited a home I sold last month just to say hello and see how everything was going. The homeowner was busy putting in a new bathroom (a great way to add value to the home, I might add!).
He was putting down a plywood sub-floor - and I couldn't help but notice a warning stamped on the wood.
THIS PRODUCT MAY GENERATE WOOD DUST, A CHEMICAL KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE CANCER.
Whaaat-huh? We are now regulating wood dust? Now I'm sure that many people here are going to jump all over me and talk about chemicals in the wood, blah, blah, blah.
We're talking wood dust. Or saw dust as I'm used to calling it. A smell, by the way, which I find intoxicating! I love the smell of wood when it's being cut. But I guess I have to watch out for the big C now!
Be smart - wear a mask when working with anything that produces particulates or gasses.
But has our society really come to a point where we have to label wood as being cancer causing?
