I Love Lake In The Hills!!!

Lake in the Hills logoI just celebrated 8 years of living in Lake in the Hills and I gotta say, I didn't want to move here.  Funny,  I went from crabby about moving to crazy about LITH, but it's true!  I thought it was too far from the city and good shopping and awesome restaurants and nightclubs.  But I was about to be married so why did I think I'd be having fun anymore?  OK that was harsh - what I meant was, my life and my idea of fun was about to change.  SO here are the things I love about where I live.

There really is a lake in the hills!!  I doubted it for a long time since I had only ever heard about Crystal Lake and the beach and the cardboard boat regatta at Crystal Lake.  Now I can confidently say that there is a lake - 4 actually - and my daughters have both enjoyed their preschool experiences overlooking Woods Creek Lake.  There's really nothing like learning while overlooking the water.   It's so lovely we even had our family portraits done there in the Fall.

Who needs Woodfield Mall - we've got Randall Road!  I can remember when the intersection of Algonquin & Randall Roads was a fairly simple intersection with 3 major grocery stores & each street was one lane in each direction.  NOW there are places to spend your money as far as the eye can see - clothes, fitness centers, office supplies, craft stores, hair salons for adults & for kids, wine shops, beauty supplies, warehouse clubs, home improvement stores & a nail salon in every strip mall.

Showing a true love of the environment, the 34 parks in Lake in the Hills offer lakes for fishing and boating, bike paths, a sports park, and even a 260 acre nature preserve.  The biggest indicator of our love of the environment - four words:  Arbor Day Poster Contest!

I thought I had to escape to Chicago for entertainment; I was wrong.  We have an AMC movie theater, great restaurants that offer amazing culinary offerings from exquisite classics to innovative sushi, from delicious pizza to sinful sweets and desserts, wonderful & creative offerings from the park district, the Summer Sunset Festival with the best fireworks in McHenry County, and most notably the Rockin' Rotary Ribfest!

The variety of communities to call home suits anyone and everyone.  From condos & townhomes to grand custom homes in a gated golf course community, from vacation cottages with water views to new subdivisions, Lake in the Hills can satisfy all tastes, features & price points.

The one thing I really love and appreciate about living here in Lake in the Hills are my unbelievable neighbors!  We've often joked that even if we won the lottery we would not move if we couldn't afford to bring our neighbors with us.  From the epic play dates to the imprompti-Q's, from the dozens of trick-or-treaters to the communal efforts during a snowstorm, I am lucky enough to call my neighbors my friends as well.  I can count on them for dinner recommendations & emergency babysitting, for game nights & serious opinions.

Remember that where you live is much more than an address; it's the community, it's where you shop & eat, it's where you play & plan.  Feel free to contact me anytime if you have questions about Lake in the Hills or the surrounding communities.  Who knows - maybe you can move into my wonderful neighborhood & feel the love.

I have two cousins who moved up to Lake in the Hills a couple years back and felt the same way you did initially but now they love the area.
