Living in Battle Creek, Michigan and working in the community as a Realtor has me in a position to help many people become homeowners right here in town. When one begins to look for a home, it is important to narrow down the details of what they want to look at. Otherwise, one could spend their time looking at homes that do not appeal to needs or interests.
"What type of Battle Creek home do you want to buy?" is usually one of my early questions to new clients. Narrowing down the criteria they want is important to narrowing the search.
How many bedrooms to they want or need? Do they need a garage? Do they need a basement? Do they need a large yard? Does it have to be fenced in? Are they looking to be in a certain school district? Or perhaps a certain part of town? In short, tell me a little about what type of Battle Creek home you want to buy.
I have had some clients that want three bedrooms, but need a ranch, or a home designed with at least one bedroom and bathroom on the main floor, and also a main floor laundry. The reason being is they have elderly parents or someone with a disability that lives with them that does not do well with stairs.
Knowing these details makes it easier as a Realtor to go to the database of available homes, and search for exact matches to meet their desires. It is the difference between looking at a massive list of 100 houses, and a narrowed search of 10 or 12.
Once a basic search is entered it become more possible to see not only what is available, but also see if there is a need to modify the search to find more houses.
Sometimes the criteria can be too specific, and thus very few homes come up in the search. Then one either needs to expand the range one is searching, or loosed up some of the other requirements in order to find something to look at.
Most of the time however, I find people are not specific enough, and may need to look at a few homes first before we can develop a list of things that are important to them to include in the search.
Finding the right home for you become easier, and easier the more you engage in the process.
