Yes, there is something you can do for the survivors in Joplin, MO

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Harris McHaney & Faucette 479-253-3796

We are  all in shock and disbelief over the tragic weather related events of the evening of 5/22/2011 Joplin, Missouri. Whether you live near, as I do, just 90 miles away or you are across the country there is something you can do.

The American Red Cross will know what to do and how to do it for the survivors of this terrible tornado. If you try to imagine what our brothers and sisters in Joplin are going through and you have anything to give...how could you not?

My friend called in a panic yesterday afternoon. He is working this week in Mountain home, and his in-laws live in Lamar, Mo. It seems they met yesterday in Joplin, so the kids could go with the grandparents.

Were it not for some quick thinking (and driving) from grandpa they would have been in the middle of it. We need to count our blessings EVERY DAY!

Charles--giving blood is always a good way to help as it is always needed somewhere.  Cost the giver nothing but a little bit of time!

Charles - I have a friend who relocated this past year from Joplin.  It's tough to see all the damage wrought yesterday.  I don't mean to sound trite, but I wonder if the Precious Moments place was affected?  They have the most inspirational laser and water fountain show at dark.  We stopped there several years ago with the kids...awesome place!

It's incredible the weather that's taken place around the country this spring. And, we've not even hit hurricane season yet. Great job sharing what folks who would like to help can do for our friends in Joplin.

Thank you Active Rain friends for commenting and responding as you are able. Our office is sending van loads or car loads as necessary, of non perishables to Joplin tomorrow evening and  Thursday evening. We do have one agent that commutes from Joplin.

Eureka Springs, AR where M. and I reside is 90 miles from Joplin but Century 21 Exclamation is substantially closer. The devastation defies description.

Hi Charles... got your message and thanks. My daughter Tawnya and my 3 grand kids live in Joplin. Tawn works 2 jobs, one for the Joplin Globe, which I believe is functioning somewhat with broken windows and some damage. She also worked at the local WalMart, which I see on CNN is just a pile of rubble. Tawn usually works there on Sundays. There is a God and thank goodness she had the day off.

Thanks also to social media... with phones and cell towers down it was impossible to communicate. I learned from Facebook that my family was okay. Their home is mostly gone... Thanks to networks like AR and Twitter, I've had friends like you chime in to help... much appreciated! I haven't been able to have a conversation with anyone other than they've got the message out they're alright.... Keep you posted.

    Thanks again...

Charles...it is unreal the devastation that the tornado's have caused this season. We (our church) have a couple of 18 wheelers we're filling up with household items to take to Alabama. I can't imagine what these people are going through.

Tornados have touched down too much recently Mother Nature is not being very kind to us.  I was lucky to touch down in Dallas last night there were storms brewing and many were delayed today.  We are watching the flooding in LA very closely
