Should I? Should I Not? Reciprocate! OR comment?

Reblogger Aida Pinto

I have to admit that I didn’t used to reciprocate comments, but I do now.  Do you reciprocate?  My post rarely get more than 5 or 6 comments and that’s easy to do?  But what about those that get 100.  How could you reciprocate?

For almost two years now, I've been posting on Active Rain - almost without exception acknowledging any comments made on one of my blog posts personally, and then going to a post written by that commenter and throwing in my two cents - or reciprocating. So, that would mean - in case this is unclear - I would make two responses to each comment made on my post.  See where I'm going with this?question

Two years later, we have well over 125,000 people on Active Rain, and many of them are blogging, commenting and reciprocating. I am still trying to acknowledge those people who stop by to comment, and knowing me, I probably will continue to do so; HOWEVER, I've kinda sorta decided that on any post I have featured, that I may do one or the other. OR I may make a selective group comment - unless someone asks me a question. How does that sound? Otherwise, I end up with 3-4 pages of comments, and there's no way I can get through them and even think about writing another post.

So??? I'd like to hear what some of you think, feel, do. And, for the record, one benefit to me as a reciprocater, is  this: as I drop by someone's post who commented on mine, I find many great people and posts that I wouldn't find otherwise.

Reciprocation is HUGE in the Active Rain community, and many articles have been written on the subject. What do you think? Now that Active Rain is so HUGE, maybe we spend too much time on just commenting and not writing for business or friends?question

1.  Do we do one or the other?

2.  Are we off the hook when we have over, say, 20 comments?

3. Do we comment AND reciprocate?

4. ??????

That's where my head is.....for now! ;-)

Always remember the "Golden Rule" ........ I think it goes something like do unto others as you would want to be treated. I think if someone takes the time to stop by and comment I will respond to them and find a post of their's worthy of a comment. I can't keep track of multiple comments these days

I try my best to reciprocate, although I cannot always do it in a timely fashion.  Sometimes I will go to a blogger's posts and make multiple comments on several of their posts at the same time so I can make up for not always being able to get there when I would like.

I would love to do "one for one" all the time, but sometimes it just does not work out that way...when I have a block of free time - hah! - I do try to sit and make as many comments as I can.
