When you are writing copy for an ad there are 7 words that are proven to grab a readers attention! These are power words and they produce results! So make sure you use them in your marketing! And just as in life, if you use the opposite words too often people will not care to read, because it sounds like an ad, or just a brag-fest...

Also asking a question with the word you in it, will make the person stop and consider what your ad is about and is a great advertising technique. Be careful of asking a question you might not like the answer to. Make sure the question is sure to have a positive, rather than negative response! (no's and I don't care's shouldn't even enter the readers mind!)
Using the present tense is better than using past tense, because the readers will think "it's over, or I missed it" and not bother to read further.
Headlines are are over ten times more powerful than content, so try to spend that amount of time trying to figure out a catchy Title or headline! Headlines need to be succinct and get your point across in less than 11 words.
Try to make your ad look like a story rather than an ad. people tend not to read ads, unless something catches their eye.
Photographs are key; it's the first thing a reader will see.
The caption is the next thing they will read so make sure you caption with purpose! If you are using a photo of a person, make sure their eyes are looking into the camera, that gets a higher response than eyes looking somewhere else!
If you are not using a picture make an offer, an ad that looks like an “ad” won’t get read.
A great ad has white space. If there is just a block of text, people's eyes will tire or lose their place and they will give up reading!
- Make lists or use bullet points!
- People love that rather than a block of text.
- It makes them think they're getting just the important stuff!
Make it fancy! Use a Drop Cap! Ads with “Drop Caps” get noticed more than ads without.
If you put copy in "quotations" it will get read more than sentences without quotations.
Try to make your ad deliver some news, people value information and they will read something that does that.
Try to cause a stir or buzz with your name or business name involved! That gives people a great story to tell, and by them telling the story it makes them interesting. You want them to say: “Hey did you hear…” or “Hey, you’re never going to believe…” and then they tell a story that you've got free advertising in!
