Discover Who your Neighbors are on National Night Out on Tuesday August 2, 2011. This will be the 28 TH Annual National Night Out. This is a unique crime/drug prevention program which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch ( NATW).
Last year 37 million people particapted in this event. The campaign involved citizens, law enforcement, civic groups, local business, local offiocials from over 15,000 communities covering all 50 states, US Territories, Canadian cities and Military bases.
The purpose of this night out is spend one evening away from the television and go out and meet your neighbors. The hope is that these efforts will:
* Increase crime and drug prevention
* Send messages to criminals that neighborthoods are bonding and getting orgiazed to fight back.
* Build neighborhood sprit and help build relationships with local law enforcement.
* Develop support for anticrime programs.
TheNational Association of Town Watch has more information and a community can send in for information about how to organize a formal event.
All of us should think about particiapting and helping with what we can to make this night out a success. It is too late now for this year but I am sure it probably takes a good year of planning to have an organized local event.
