Getting in the Hay

It's hay season in Kentucky.  It doesn't get much better than this for me!  I love the smells, the beautiful weather and all those memories.  When I was a little girl I worked in hay fields during the summer months, and up into fall after school and weekends.  I enjoyed lifting the big bales and riding on the hay wagon.  There was something special about being able to store the winter's hay in the barn loft and know that your animals would have plenty to eat because you worked so hard to put it there.

Growing up farming made me very aware of the weather and its fickle nature.   We watched cold fronts, cloud formations and planned the cutting accordingly.   If the drying hay got wet, it could mean the loss of the whole crop.  That in turn would mean selling the livestock that would now not have enough food for the winter.  Farming can be a delicate dance between wisdom, faith,  hope, luck and hard work.

So, what about the Feng Shui of a farm?  It can be fabulous, or it can be horrific.   Many times it is both.  Here's what can happen.  This year the best energy is located in the Southwest.  Any movement here will benefit the entire house.  Then there are the areas that should not be disturbed.  Every year there is a new sector that we avoid digging in.  Those sectors are kept quiet save the gentle sound of a chiming clock or windchimes.  We avoid renovating, hammering on the walls and digging holes.

Now, suppose your corn field falls in a "do not disturb" area?   Every time you plow, plant or harvest that crop you're going to be "stirring up trouble".  That trouble can come in many forms.  Sickness, accidents, bickering...you name it and the blame can often be traced to a Feng Shui issue.

So, what's a farmer to do? This year the North to West sector should not be disturbed.  If  you must plow in this area, start in the North East or East before dragging that equipment to the North and/or West sector.  All this is relative to the center of your home.  If you need help, just drop me an email and I'll be glad to answer your questions.

And the long sleeved shirts to protect your arms from scratches...and the hay down your neck...and bugs...and once my husband was "bit" by a copperhead that was baled with its mouth open.  ha   Dead snakes bite, too.  Ah...memories.
